Hello all this is my first post so here goes
Got a old laptop its a 486 its got a 250mb drive
all i want is to put this in the amiga
i got one from a carboot today for £5 with disks its a a600 mouse power supply ect
I understand how to connect it to my pc and format it in winuae
what cable does the amiga use to read this drive??
and how do i power it up??
plz help new to all this
had the amiga meny years ago just for games

well, it's a 2.5" laptop HD, power is supplied through the cable from the motherboard. You can get the mount kits for these on ebay periodically. Another place to try if you are here in the states in Software Hut:

Generally, they have the kits which contain the mounting bracket and the cable.
As long as you have OS3.1 install floppies the rest is a peice of cake.

ok will give it a try the hardest thing will be to find a a cable dont want to get it from ebay will try maplins in the uk thanks for your reply

CPC would be a better bet ;-)
If the laptop has a 'stub' cable you may be able to use that, the HD will be close to the motherboard make sure it's insulated (otherwise it'll short) and has an airgap (the HD will get warm, and cause unnecessary dry joints otherwise, causing the surface mount components to fall off!). The HD mount is a metal bracket that just does this the 'proper' way ;-)
I got an extra long cable from Eyetech, but that was a long time ago!
