just wondering... is there some proggy around that stops all running processes and stops the harddisk as well, so i can safely shutdown my A1200 ??
untill now i just press the mainswitch on the powersupply, and i really dont know if my harddisk likes that :-? :-)
anyone ? i've checked on the aminet but coudnt find anything useful
btw i'm using OS 3.1

As long as the disk isn't being accessed, you can turn off an Amiga at any time.

the thing that worried me is a loud "click" coming from the HD when i press the poweroff button...
but anyway, it should be ok then

That is most likely the HD parking the RW head.

That loud click is your drive autoparking before it runs out of juice. Drives have been able to do that since the 80s.

I thought the same when I got my first HDD-equipped Amiga, but any computer will make that "click" sound, even after it's been "shutdown" - it's not a problem.
IIRC really old drives did need "parking" to an area where the head wouldn't damage the platter when it crashed down - I can only assume that was before the Amiga? :-?

ok thanks guys, feeling a lot more comforteble now :-D

The last HDs that needed to be parked were some of the early 20Mb 3 1/2" drives (double height ones ;-)).
