Post by: nahoo7 on May 31, 2004, 02:20:45 PM
I tried downloading software of the net,unpacked it and then copied it to a cd.when i put it in the amiga cd-rom no files showed up.I clicked on show all files and doubled-clicked the executable file.But got a requester"non executable file error code 10">
Is their something else I have to do or is their another program I have to run before hand,or do I have to assign something.
I am novice at amigas thank you.

It won't be an assign missing (that error would be something like "cannot find..." or "place volume ... in any drive").  It could be a problem with the archive itself, or the unpacker was an older version.  Or that there was a problem burning to cd.

You should write the archive to CD and unarchive it on the Amiga. Amiga archives usually contain some file attributes not supported on Windows.

Bye,
Thomas

Depends also on what he downloaded. ADF's ? Or "plain" programs..

If they are ADF's, you need to write those to disk with a program called something like ADF2Disk..

If they are normal programs, copy them to disk and make sure they still have the executable flag set..

Ok its been some time since i used a real amiga so I might be wrong, first if you cant see icons then there are no .info files. These tell workbench how to lanch the file; stack, tool types etc. Your error might be due to the lack of this information. U could try running the progs from the cli this may give a more information. Hope this helps.

Well you may want to do what Thoas suggests, otherwise;

Open a CLI or SHELL, go to the dir where you put the files (copied from the CD) and type "protect [filename] +e"

This from memorie, so I might be a bit off..

Or depending on the OS version, select the file in the workbench, press A+i and select the flags you want to set, and then save.. AFAIK OS3.X creates a .info file then for it.. Nut sure if that's 3.5 or lower tho..

Oh, and one other thing, if you were using the regular version of LHA for PCs it'll have truncated the filenames, too!! (another good reason for unpacking on the Amiga ;-))
