Hi

There is a lot of question to answer first

Do you have installed AHI in your HD? them may be the volume output in AHI prefs, but the right way to test your sound, through paula (I imagine because you havent told nothing) is loading IE a game from floppy disc.

If there is no sound at all then, the sound circuit (amplifier or filter)may have been gone to the way.

Best Luck

If you know your amplifier and cabling is functioning correctly and you have tried programs you know produce sound on other systems then the problem must be with the hardware.

This may be a shot in the dark but... Have you tried another power supply with the A1200? It could possibly be the A1200 is not getting a -12V current needed to produce sound.

Worth a shot.

If the -12V is missing the sound should be more like cracking since the positive edges of the samples would still be there. Know this since it is what happens on a A600 when not connecting the -12V.

But might still be worth a shot to test the PSU.

If you are unlucky it could be the Paula chip on the loose or some capacitors that blown. Seen a A1200 where you had to press down some chips to have it working. (Think it was the CPU at that time)

I had a similar problem with my A1200.  If I pushed the sound connector or the power connector down I could often get the sound to come back.  I thought maybe the socket was lose so I opened up the 1200 and checked.  Everything looked good.   I powered it up with the motherboard on the table and everything worked fine.

The only thing that I could think of was that the top section of the motherboard shield was shorting something out.  I reassembled the system with everything except the top shield and I haven't had a problem since.

Hello,

Look near the keyboard connector and see if C303 & C304 appear intact and there is no black goo on the PCB. These capacitors failed on my A600 recently, temporarily removing sound. Replaced and it works fine.

See ya.
