Hi,
I have some 2.5" hard disks that i have problems with together with my amiga 1200. (Kickstart 3.0)
My Hitachi DK222A-54 for example.
When i start the computer it doesnt boot from the hard disk, instead the computer immediately ask for the workbench disk.
I have to reboot the computer for it to find the hard disk and then everythings ok.
Can anyone explain to me why this happen and is there any solution to this problem..?
Thanks in advance for any help! :-)

The stock A1200 IDE interface has no pre-delay for drives to spin up, so some makes (usually Quantum ~120Mb disks) arn't ready quick enough.
It doesn't do any harm to soft-boot, if you can put up with it every time ;-)

Correct.
And I think this glitch was fixed with the 3.1 ROM, wasn't it?
Anyhow, the drives are fully compatible, it's just a glitch with the detection routine. A 3-finger salute, and you're on your way. :-)

Thanks for your help!
If i change my Roms to 3.1, do i also have to upgrade to workbench 3.1 or higher, or can i continue to use 3.0 without any problems?

There is a hack on AMINET that makes the kickstart
wait a little longer,
look through the HARD/HACKS section.
you'll probably have to do some soldering tho.
good luck

You can run any Workbench version lower or equal to the Kickstart version, so yes, you can continue with 3.0 without problems. But you can also upgrade to 3.5 or 3.9 if you like. Kickstart 3.1 is the latest one, it runs all versions of Workbench.
Bye,
