Title: aminet broken archives?
Post by: Teast on May 25, 2004, 09:57:55 PM
Hi!

Most of you guys probably knows that I have been trying to get my a1200 onto the network..
well I downloaded and installed amiTCP and it works realy good :D
got around 900kb free while it´s running.

I have downloaded AmIRC and lynx (just for fun to test)
but when I where going to extract the lha files the program start to complain about broken files etc..

so my question now is if the lynx.lha and amirc.lha is broken or if it´s my lha program that is demanding some free time...

Thanks
/Teast

There could be many reasons why this is happening, here are some suggestions:

- the hard drive you are copying the files on has some bad blocks;
- you have downloaded the archives with an ftp client as "text" files, not as "binary";
- your lha program is too old and can't handle the newer archives versions.

This sound like something that happened to me when I first got my Amiga online.

Funnily enough it was AmiNet I was downloading from. I found that when I was downloading lots of archives at the same time, I'd have more problems.

If you have had 3, 4, 5, 6 (I can't remember how many at a time I was downloading) this may have happened to you too. If something is broken, try downloading it on it's own & see if it works then.
