Well Im going AmiWest this summer! and Im stoked (oooh an 80's expression) who all is going? We could share a hotel room, or all meet somewhere.
-
Not sure. Lack of finances...
Would have liked to set up a table to sell a bunch of excess Amiga stuff. Missed the last two events. bummer.
-
I am planning on going.
I am close enough that I will just drive to it. I am hoping that there will be a decent turn out.
-
I'll be there! I have my room all paid for at the Hotel. I plan to bring my Pegasos II to show off and get smoe help with, as well as some A3000 bits left over to sell off.
-
Acill...cool, you driving in from San Diego????
That'll make at least 2 of us with Pegasos 2 in attendance and
generally showing off.
Of course, I have the home advantage because I live in Sactown :D
Steve :-D

I've been thinking about it but it all depends on how cheap I can get the flight for. Cheapest so far is £400 but thats too much. I did see deals a while ago for £110.

OUCHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

JKD, Acill may want you to help him install Linux on his machine :)
If you can get it running MacOnLinux during the show, that'd be absolutely excellent.. just to show it :)

The plan is to show it off! I have 30GB reserved for linux and MOL. I may even get a new drive to devote just for OSX. I hope Sven comes in for th eshow. He seems to be the master at linux on the Pegasos.
-
i hope they are going to do something where someone at the convention is online and letting people like me see what's happening.
sort of enjoying the fun from far away.
-
OK I asked the misses and she said yes, so if ya want a ride to sacramento from LA area I can help out. If ya just dont wana go up there alone you can ride with me, or if its cheaper to fly to LAX I can take ya from there too. Just drop me a line here or on my email, we can get it all set up. I have a small station wagon and I can fit maybe 5 guys and their kit.
-
I was thinking of going too. It depends if anyone else from the UK was up for it, and the price of the flights.
Bobson: Gimme a shout mate?
-
Yup....hooked up with Acill on IRC today.

Hehe - a blue troll and a red troll on a plane..
I'm looking at prices buddy. Its proving quite difficult trying to bring them down. £400 is a lot for a couple of days, and then there is accomodation ontop. However if we can get to LA or somewhere and grab one of those greyhound busses it could work out cheaper. Its proving a logistical nightmare it being a good 9 hour flight. But going would be very cool!
I have some Easy Jet flights that I must use up or loose. For an extra £40 I cant get to Udine for the Italian show.
-
I found £325 to Phoenix (a bit more for LA) on ba.com from London Heathrow. Is Phoenix nearer to Sacramento than LA? It's still very expensive for a few days though.
Perhaps a show in Europe might be a better idea. But... are there any big shows in Europe any more?!
-

This one is in Europe - and its shaping up to be big :-)
-
Phoenix (My Home Town) is in Arizona and is 8 hours drive to LA, then another 6 to 8 depending on your driving speed to Sacramento from there. Its a long haul.

Looks interesting.... but where is MorphOS? I've just noticed that the AmiWest announcement mentions OS4/AmigaOne but excludes MorphOS/Pegasos too.
No wonder show attendence numbers are decreasing if they are excluding over 50% of the community. There's no reasoning involved, it's just bigotry on their parts. :pissed:
-
as last year, pegasos seemed to dominate, maybe they are trying to extend a welcome to OS4/AmigaONE owners. and encourage those people to come also.
the peg owners already will be there. try not to attribute "evil" where none exists. I have been to the last 2 shows and they seems like nice, friendly people. :-D
-
I've told BBRV that I would be there for them and set up a table with a few Pegasos II systems and demo MOS. Not to sure of the details yet but I think we will have a real nice set of things to show if it all works out. In any case the Pegasos and MorphOS WILL be there. I'll make sure of it! :-D

Hehe - you had to get a dig in dude..
Ive been having a look - ASCII is right its an insane distance. Prime issue is the time we have. We'd both have to get to London first - which isnt an issue, but that adds to the time.. we'll be spending more time on planes than at the show. If I could get a week off it would be worth it.. but that isnt going to happen.
How about the Venice show instead? and they will have plenty of pegs for you to drool over :-P But of course OS 4 will be the star ;-) hehe :-P

Heehee :-)

I'll have a think about it and get back to you!

Im getting excited about Amiwest! its June so its just around the corner ROADTRIP!
-
The primary reason for that, is the club is first and foremost an 'Amiga club'. It has nothing to do with bigotry just lack of information on Pegasos and Morphos.
I did a presentation to the club last year, got strong interest.
People would have bought Pegasos systems at Amiwest 2003 but none were available. Genesi had 8(?) employees at that show...still Amiga folks did a far better presentation of the operating system than Genesi did even though they had very little to show. For what it's worth...no one could buy an A1 with AmigaOS at the show either!
I will (hopefully) present the Peg II to the club this year before Amiwest.
Acill and I will put on a good showing of Peg II and MorphOS at Amiwest this year!
Steve

Oh...and I forgot. I guess my depature from the 'Amiga scene' really didn't last long..blame magnetic and Genesi plus an offer I couldn't resist!
:-P
-
Hey, what's the cheapest way to get from LA to Sac?
If there are a few of us, why not hire a minivan or two and drive? Road trip!!!!
How long does it take? Wouldn't it be like a 12 hour drive?
What about trains?
What about flights? I've got a credit with Southwest but I would rather use it for my vacation to NY instead.
-

Not quite. Mapquest says it's 5h45m. I can make it from West Covina, CA (about 15 miles east of LA) to Loomis, CA (a few miles north-east of Sac) in about 5h, assuming the central valley isn't a parking lot.
-
Hey I live in COVINA! ok we need to get ahold of eachother and we can all go up. Im sure I can dig up a car to take.

No way!!! It took me 6 hours just to get from LA to San Francisco on an empty road. AND I WAS DOING 150mph most of the time. No CHiPs to be seen. Man, when american cars hit the speed limiter they feel like they're coming apart.
-
Dude, how about we just just all chip in for a minivan and Gas? You really want to blow your mileage?
-
Mapquest say <6hrs. I say plan for 6.5 to 8.5 depending on traffic
(Friday commute sucks!) ...oh and it's straight up the five once
you've done all that downtown/crosstown LA BS!
Depending on time of day you might hit 30/40mins of crosstown traffic
at I5/I80 interchange..homeward bound Friday commute etc.
Get >1 of you going and you've done it in about 3 tanks of gas ($95?
$100?) plus a weekend rental..$150?) for a grand total of $250/number
of Amiganuts
That's about the cost of a flight from Burbank to Sac, round trip for
one person!
PLus there's the roadtrip fun...burger joints etc.

I would love to grab a van and get al of you since I'll be on my way up from th emost southern part of California, but my family is comming too and I have no room in the Jeep. I am leaving on the 15th too and plan to spend some time in a few places on the way visiting family.
I recomend you all get in touch with vanpool and see what they charge. Its a cheap way to get a full size van. Lots of people here use that for the long commutes they make into work every day.
-
Just a reminder Amiwest in Sacramento is comming soon, June is half over! Email me If you want to car pool up there.
-
Also for all of you in the area wanting to take a look at and use a few Pegasos systems JKD and myself will be at the show for Genesi showing them off. We should have a great looking booth for everyone to check out!
-
OK folks its almost the end of JUNE! and July is right around the corner! get your tickets! I cant wait to see all your ugly mugs, I rather like mine.
-
Other then JKD and myself for Gensesi I havent heard of any other vendors showing up? Has anyone heard of any? I would like to know!
-
Okay its just about here and I am in route to the show now visiting some family on the way.
I have decided to bring some of my goodies to sell off. If anyone is attending and has any interest at all in the following items let me know and I will hold them for a short time before putting them out.
A3000 NEW daughter card. (Final revision)
Several 3.5" SCSI and IDE hard drives ranging from 500MB to 4GB.
one 2.5" IDE 4GB drive
Several NIB 8139 PCI Ethernet cards tested on Mediator
Several PCMCIA Ethernet cards tested with the 3Com driver
LOTS of nearly mint Amiga magazines like the US Amigaworld, Amiga Format ect. ($1 each?)
Amiga floppy cable
Several Active SCSI Terminators and a few SCSI-2 to the wide type used on the CSPPC and MK III cards.
Two Soundblaster 4.1 Digital cards tested in Mediator, also new.
All of the money I get from these sales will be going to help a local youth group in San Diego as well.
See you at the Genesi booth!!!

not THAT part of California. in fact the only part of California that DOES suck is LA.
the rest of the state is actually quite beautiful.
anyway, you don't have to see any of California. just stay in the hotel!
