hello i was given an a2000 and have been trying to get the df0 drive to work but all i get is read/write errors so i couldnt load the hardive i then loaded the hardrive in an a500 and put it in the a2000 with an external drive added i get to the worbench screen and the df1:bad appears so i cant set it up from their tried pulling the external apart and using it as df0 but no matter where i put the jumper it came up as df0:bad on the screen am wondering if any of the chips on the board could be faulty

Have you tried a different internal drive cable?
Have you tried using paragraphs or full stops? :)
It could well be the motherboard is faulty, but I'd make sure the rest of it is okay first. An external drive might appear as "bad" if the machine is jumpered to take an internal 2nd drive.

gday yes i tried a different ribbon to no affect not sure what you mean by paragraphs am a novice at amigas heard that the 2 cia? chips could be faulty and the ones out of the a500 are the same but not sure which they are they contol the the floppys i think looks like there are some new chips in there already

@ nahoo7
The paragraphs and full stops that were being refered to, were the lack of them in your posts. He was pulling your chain.
He was probably wondering if you had heard of the puncuation jumpers on the A1000 mobo

It could be the Paula chip, CIAs, or anything inbetween, but yes the CIAs are the best bet. Easiest test is to swap the CIAs over and see if the problems goes elsewhere.
Try these references:

As for paragraphs, maybe I meant punctuation.

okay thanks.i will try changing the chips and see how it goes.
also the a500 has a 100mb hdd scsi and it partitined in 2 halves of 49mb each.
the a590 board manual says it only takes up to 20mb hdd but it still formatted and installed, but setup cant prep it says hdd cannot be found.
so dont know if i have to make more partitions.
thanks

Replace the disk drive with another one. Make sure it is jumpered as DF0:. Also check to make sure that jumper 301 on the motherboard is removed for one drive or installed for two drives. If this does not work then replace Paula. She contains the disk drive controller. Also, do NOT put any creases in the disk drive ribbon cable. The small wires inside break very easily.
