Title: Is it possible to install NDOS games to my hardrive?
Post by: Austin1200 on May 19, 2004, 06:56:59 PM
anybody know how to get NDOS games onto hardrive, or a tool that will allow me to open such disks in WB3.1?

You can try Aminet (http://www.aminet.net) or WHDLoad (http://www.whdload.de) but there aren't many choices after that. NDOS is Non-DOS. They're custom format disks.

Isn't there a tool or tools to "mount" DMS, AFD and such disks as drives? If there are, are they any good for playing games?

You can mount ADF images in WB with a tool called FMS device or something.  Mounts images as virtual floppies!  Works good, but the disk has to be DOS, NDOS will not work.  The only way to use NDOS games in WB is with JST and WHDLoad.

Eco:

You might be able to write one to a rad, but the loaders for these disks only take in to account for the floppy drive.

...whats a RAD...?

It's a RAM disk. It's like a floppy disk (same size), only it's in RAM. It won't survive a reboot, though.

It's supposed to.. That's what RemRAD is for. The last time I used a rad, it was on the machine for a week (through several reboots) before I realised I hadn't gotten rid of it.

Not!  Thats what a RAD: disk is for. RemRAD does what it says, removes the RAD disk.

Sure, the RAD: "RAm Disk" is resetproof! :-)
Unless you do a coldreset, means holding the keys for more than a few seconds, or just turn off and turn on again after a few seconds.

But to read contents of NDOS disks is not possible unless you use some special tools.
xad.library has ability to read some of the NDOS disks, like some demodisks by Sanity (including Arte, Roots, Jesterday etc) or some "Sensible" games like Cannon Fodder, Sensible Soccer etc (only on the cracked unprotected versions though). :-D

But if you want to play your original NDOS games on your Amiga then you MUST get WHDLoad and use it. Playing games from HD is easy, fast and even better, because the games are patched to work on your AGA machine. Many games cannot run on AGA machines or do not run properly. :-(
Get WHDLoad and REGISTER it! It really deserves it! ;-)
