Help!
My scsi1230 CD drive will not play music CD's. I can access and use any data CD. The Play CD tool opens and displays the silver CD player, and the CD starts to run when I push play.
The player lists all the tracks. NO SOUND!
I can play music off of the hard drive with no problem.
Any Ideas?
Thanks.

Is it an internal scsi cd drive?
YOU`ve fitted headphones into the front jack? and turned up the sound volume? if there are phonos then check them by a 2 phono to 3.5 female jack cable and headphones/hifi input
But it sounds like software to me...because you checked out the above, and the cd is actually reading the tracks...

Yes, internal. I did try to install the Mediator SB128 dirvers, but it didn't work.
I deleted all of the SB128 files I could find. I thought that this would fix the problem, but it didn't.

Are you expecting it to play digital audio through the SCSI bus?? If so, that's not going to happen unless you get a program that does that. PlayCD does not do digital audio playback. You need to connect the internal audio cable of the CD-ROM drive to a sound board of some sort. Or you can plug a headphone jack cable into the jack on the front of the drive and run it to an amplifier.
-
What I did was install a SB 16PCI card. It has the CT5880 chipset that is supposedly supported by the Mediator drivers.
This is not the case. The card was cheap, so I'll use it in another system.

There is a "patch" cable socket on the back of CD-ROM drives for connecting to a sound card. If you can't use it, use the audio jack on the front with a mixer of some kind.
Without either wired up you'll hear nothing. But the drive *is* still actually playing it... Try plugging in a pair of earphones and you'll hear it. The drive light should blink slowly when playing CDDA.

You can still use the cd-rom if you get an 4 pin connector to two phono connector (to a amp) , like i have on my machine...
Oh well...
BTW is the number 6 supposed to be 42? spoken by charlton heston on a Roman galley?

Songplayer (from Aminet) will play audio from the SCSI bus.
You need to set up AHI, which you probably have already, and set the scsi device
and unit ID of the CDrom.
Works fine on all(?) SCSI drives and most IDE ones.
Also try MUI CD Player (Aminet) which has drivers to suit most CDroms. Played
audio will only be available at the earphone socket and rear audio port of the
drive.

Thanks for the info everyone!
The quote is from an excellent British TV show from the 1960's called "The Prisoner"
There are many links on the search engines for this TV show.
#6 is everyman, who struggles with "The Powers that be" and in the end wins his freedom.
