(as in Bodmin, Cornwall, UK)
Anyone remember this store? Used to be a couple of hardenned Amiga guys that ran it, but it went under in about '97. Would be kinda neat to find out what they're up to now ;-)
-
Selling either PCs, Macs or french fries. ;-)
-
They got scared away by the Beast of Bodmin Moor (http://www.paranormality.com/beast_of_bodmin.shtml). :-o :-)
-
Ummm, don't remember seeing any Macs in there ... and just the occational chip - accompanied by fish, lol.
I spoke to a guy who swore blind he'd seen the 'Beast' in the fields behind the comprehensive school, but I always reconned it was a load of cobblers.

No doubt commiting acts of shoe repair.

Nah, I moved to Suffolk years ago, so it can`t be that..
Anyway, when I lived in Cornwall I was a proud Spectrum user, gloating over my BBC-B owning friends about having 16k more memory than them...

I only ever saw one 48K working, and that beloned to a kid in Par ...
-
Sorry, didn't mean that 48k's were unreliable, rather that I only ever got to play with one properly ;-)

I think you may be confused about the name of that Bodmin computer shop. It was actually called ACE Computers and was situated in St Nicholas Street, just up from the Post Office. It was owned by Adrian Emery and I looked after the shop for him at times (my name is Alan Bennett and now live in Cheltenham), and big hairy Nick helped out from time to time as well. We used to hold the Bodmin Amiga Users Klub (BAUK) meetings there every Friday night, and had a total of about 45 - 50 members over the time the club was in existance. The club was originally founded in about 1986 by a chap called Jack Talling, who is now retired and disabled, having had part of a leg amputated a few years ago. He can be seen hacking around Bodmin on his electric scooter.
The shop didn't "go under", as you put it. When Adrian closed the shop, the company was still solvent, not bust.

HMMM i bought some stuff from ACE a few years ago...
via mailorder/inet....is it the same shop??

@Mender
Congratulations on your second post in two years!

Yes, that was it! Darn my fuzzy memory! ... Adrian's A3000 is probably the biggest influence on me getting mine ;-) He always put up with me even though I never had any money, too. Nick used to lend me CDs, though that was near the shop's closing, well after he'd painted his tower granite - last I remember he was working on some interesting photo editing of that Jennifer Aneston underwear special .
I also remember seeing an early A1200 when they put a display on in the school, but at that time it was way out of my budget (I had a ropey old A2000 at the time).

Adrian's Amiga 3000 was a one-off. He modded it to the AGA chipset. Quite amazing considering it was supposedly "impossible" to do :-o
My second post in two years? Nothing like being a regular, is there?

Adrian did send a few bits through the post, but he wasn't actually doing mail order. I don't think he had a website at the time. The club had a webpage, and I think it is still up, but not maintained.

Just found it: http://www.amigaklub.free-online.co.uk/main.html

Yeah, I always wondered about that, but never got to see inside the case :-?
