Title: Friends Series & Computers
Post by: Cass on May 18, 2004, 08:51:02 AM
I've been watching the Friends series (my favourite!:-D), and here some info about their preferable computers :-)

Chandler:

The One With the List [Season 2 Episode 8]
Quote

(Scene: Central Perk. Joey, Phoebe, Monica, and Chandler are there; Chandler is showing everyone his new computer.)

Chandler: All right, check out this bad boy. 12 megabytes of ram. 500 megabyte hard drive. Built-in spreadsheet capabilities and a modem that transmits at over 28,000 b.p.s.

Pheobe: Wow. What are you gonna use it for?

Chandler: (doggedly) Games and stuff.

Ross:

The One With Joey's New Girlfriend [Season 4 Episode 5]
Quote

Rachel: Ross, didn't you ah, play soccer in High School? Oh no wait, that's right. You just organized their game schedules on your Commodore 64.

That would have to be the most boring 'comedy' show EVER.

How can anybody stand watching that crap?

Every single sitcom from America is crap. Only the English have mastered the art of humour in TV shows :-).

Maybe only the best stuff manages to leave the country, but there are some pretty awful sitcoms made in the UK too. Fox just has the capital required to force it down everyone's throats. ;-)

Well, there are some brilliant comedies made by Dutch too (primarily by the VPRO).

Well there`s a little prejudice here, or you like/understand only the "british humor".

I enjoy the Benny Hill show, MrBean/Balck Adder, and the Monty Python shows, but I also like series as Married with Children (http://www.bundyology.com/).

Relax, and enjoy the funny stuff (It`s not about politics).

there's not much good on american TV. Friend's sure WASN'T it!
Fraser was funny.
the best shows on US TV is Simpsons, Fururama, South PArk, and stuff like that. anything that is rude, basically.

i love the shows I get to see from over the "pond". Father Ted just kills me.
the list is endless but i am lucky enough to get them on BBCAmerica channel.

I've found that with a few shows... Friends included. I never thought of it as high art or anything, but now I find it embarrassingly banal.

america's attempt at a red dwarf series was futile.

Agreed. I think the cartoons are great. Satire and humour on all levels.
No canned laughter, no unrealistically beautiful people, no toilet humour...
I don't really like American comedy at all (if it can be called that). However, I would say that some of the older stuff like Cheers and Roseanne are much better.

Out of interest, has anyone seen any German humour? Is the stereotype of the Germans being humourless true? ;):P:D

Roseanne is awesome, The Simpsons are always entertaining, Whose line is it anyway? is great, and of course Star Trek (my favorites are Voyager, TNG and DS9).  As for British shows (that I've seen anyway) I love Absolutely Fabulous, Are You Being Served?, and the Vicar of Dibley.

Other than that I don't really watch tv much on purpose.  I'm much happier sitting at the computer browsing Amiga.org wearing headphones and listening to mp3s :-)

Actually, the Germans can be very funny :-). ThereĀ“s this guy who plays a policeofficer who can be seen on the German station NDR. He speaks with an East-Frisian accent and is just  hilarious.
