Title: WB3.1 Backdrop IFF's into Fast ram?
Post by: mikrucio on May 11, 2004, 05:44:23 AM
Is there a way to load wb backdrops into fast ram
instead of chip ram? in wb3.1?

It could be handy to free up some chip ram?

regards

If you use a PPC, try CyberGraphX V3. :-D

If you have no PPC, I think FBlit can do the job, but you'll have to experiment a little with the configuration. There is a GUI so it shouldn't be too hard. :-)

"And may the AmigaGuide you!"

In one of the WB prefs there is an opton to use other memory for that. I think its in the WBpatern section.

No such option in WB 3.1 at least.

I think "newicons" or one of those packages adds it.  You're right -- it's not in the standard WB3.1, but I remember having it.

As already mentioned, FBlit is a very useful tool for liberating Chip RAM. It also tends to speed up rendering quite a bit on anything where the CPU is faster than the blitter (generally 25MHz 030+, IIRC).

Perhaps WB2Fast by Jaroslav Pokorny works; I think I had it with 3.5.

newicons does not put an option in for this.
