Ok, I am completely stumped. I used to play this really cool game with nice graphics many years ago, and, I am trying to locate it again, although, I can't seem to remember the name or who made it.
It was an overhead car game with cars that could get power-ups and shoot stuff at each other, etc. It's not Nitro or anything like that. Some levels had hovercraft like vehicles instead of cars, there may have been more types of vehicles, but, the game was so hard that was as far as I got.
If you won races you would get points (or money or sometihng) and you could purchase vehicle upgrades from this guy who basically looked like some sort of frog. I know that sounds dumb, but, that's the only way that I can describe it.
I keep wanting to think that the name of this game is something like "megarace" or something to that effect, but, I can't seem to find it anywhere. I know this is all sort of vague, but, any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Mike

No idea if it was on the Amiga, but it sounds so much like Rock N Roll Racing on the super nintendo.
It wasn't overhead though, and you did get nitros. Each level was set on a different planet. Everything else you described matches though.

This is a screenshot of RNR Racing.

Ehrm....Supercars? After a while you drove boats, and you could buy rockets to fire at the opponents. Extremely fun in 2-player mode, but too tough in one-player.
My memory could have corrupted, this is like 10 years ago :-)

Yeah, it's gotta be supercars or supercars 2 you are thinking about, fantastic game. There was also skid marks.
I loved supercars then I moved onto death rally on the PC, that was ace I mean like supercars but much better.

I can see why you would have made that connection to RNR but that's not it. Good call though.
It's also neither of the super car games. I have both. I am going to have to do some research on this a little more to see if I can find out some information about it. Although, I think the Amiga.org community is pretty much all knowing and all seeing, if you guys don't know, I may be up the creek. :-(
Thanks,
Mike

Hi, what do you know! Ringo Starr is also an Amiga fan? Hey, mate, you DO look like Ringo Starr! Seriously, I think the game you're referring to is Micro Machines by CodeMasters. It was a really playable game, and quite fun too. I've been searching for an .ADF for ages, but never managed to find one, maybe CodeMasters aren't so happy to circulate their games, even age-old gems like this one.

Nah there was no vehicle upgrading in micro machines as far as i remember.

Just to hazard a guess. Could it be Overdrive by Team 17? I remember that being similar to what you explained!

A couple of games that come to mind for me are:
Roadkill - Overhead racing game, very fast paced and was addictive.
High Octane - PD game, similar to what you're describing and was also a top down racing game.

Slightly OT.
CodeMasters aren't allowing anyone other than themselves to distribute their older games - including their Spectrum/Commodore ones!
And guess what? Thay have no intention to redistribute them on emulators or anything else :-(
@drwho
Hope you find the game :-)

Since noone mentioned Jupiter's Masterdrive, I think you should check it out. I still have my old Amiga with all the games, but it's at my parents' house and I can't check it out for you the next couple of weeks. Let us know if you find the game you're looking for.
Sincerely, Kristian

Was the game based around shooting a movie?
Each level was basically a scene, and consisted of various stunts that you had to complete to get to the end.. I know you raced cars and boats. Not sure what else..
Not sure if thats what you meant.. but, its a game I remember playing a lot. Can't for the life of me remember the name though!

I love that game! To bad it doesn't run on XP! :-(

yup - have to agree with monkian_2k - sounds very much like JMD (Jupiter's Master Drive) - and yes - it was (and is) a very cool and entertaining game -- very much recommended.
regarding death-ralley.. try dosbox (dosbox.sf.net) - if your pc is fast enough, DR will run perfectly - even using winXP.

I'll look through my collection and see if I have it. I'll private message you if I uncover it.
