Title: Boy with the Pipe
Post by: blobrana on May 06, 2004, 03:00:23 AM
Hum,
time for a bit of culture...
Pablo Picasso's "Boy with the Pipe" became the most expensive painting ever sold at auction on Wednesday when it fetched $104,168,000 at Sotheby's in New York....

Beautiful painting that is.
Alas, such a price makes it disappear behind sterilized bars, not in a place where it belongs, it belongs in a french cafe or something like that.
(me has seen Maigret too much :-))

Slightly larger image (http://www.soho-art.com/cgi-bin/shop/shop.pl?fid=1043841419&cgifunction=form), here's another (http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/main.jhtml?xml=/news/2004/05/06/wpipe06.xml&sSheet=/news/2004/05/06/ixnewstop.html), funny how nobody agrees on a color balance.  (Well, the first is of a 'reproduction,' I guess.)

Of course, let's not forget the Haunted Painting (http://www.surfingtheapocalypse.com/haunted_painting.html).

Hum,
color balance of the differant films used, and the use of indoor lights...

Also, i noticed that the former most expensive painting may possible have been burnt/destroyed by it`s owner (to avoid inheritance tax )

Van Gogh’s Portrait de Dr Gachet (bought for $82.5 million by Ryoei Saito in 1990), has not been seen since the Japanese paper magnate died in 1996.

scotsman (http://thescotsman.scotsman.com/index.cfm?id=525682004)

Shame if it has, and we only have a few photos of it....

[arty bolox]
Looks a bit like a boys head on a mans body and something bothers me about the arm holding the pipe, but then this was a period of experimentation for the artist.

Hum,
so it supposed to be a young Parisian boy holding a pipe in his left hand and wearing a garland of flowers.

see! (http://www.1st-art-gallery.com/artists/picasso/picasso-boy-with-a-pipe.jpg)

Strange way he`s holding that pipe (i assume he is right handed)...it`s backwards...holding it for someone else?...

And the style is almost japanese, (black borders around block colours...)

The lad looks a tad PO'd as well, perhaps he took a drag from the wrong end of the pipe? :-o    :-o
