Has anyone actually used Genesis to connect to a cable modem? I was sold it under those pretenses by Software Hut, but when it didn't work I emailed the current developer, Haage et al as I remember, who said it was never tested for cable and they didn't know.
I also want to connect it thru a Netgear cable router.
Anyone? Anytwo?

I'm using the version of Genesis that comes with OS 3.9 with no problems. I'm connected to my cable modem with a D-Link router/firewall.
It should be just a matter of knowing what the correct settings are for your router.
Does Genesis support DHCP? If not a router would be your best bet. Your router will get an address from your cable company using DHCP and then you can setup your amiga using settings defined by your router.

Yeah... I don't know about working directly on a cable modem. I think that varies by cable company. For my cable setup, I use Genesis behind a router. Works great. I get as fast of downloads as I do from my PC.

I use a eGig Broadband SOHO Gateway router with 4-port switch (http://shop.store.yahoo.com/comcat/egbroadsohga.html) Works great and you could likely find a better price than $57. All in one box solution. Its like a 4" x4" x 1" little thing. :-)
-edit- Forgot to mention the ext pwr supply might not be to your liking. (We all have too many of those)

You will need a router if you want it working, but yes it will work. The need for a router is due to the lack of DHCP in it. Most cable services are DHCP these days. The router will talk to the cable service and take care of the IP addressing. All you do then is set the router to issue a static IP address and tell Genisis the info it needs from the routers settings. Its that simple...
