Title: An 'average' Longhorn PC system...
Post by: blobrana on May 05, 2004, 01:29:31 AM
Lol,
It seem that micro$oft is expected to recommend that the 'average' Longhorn PC feature a dual-core CPU running at 4 to 6 GHz; a minimum of 2 gigs of RAM; up to a terabyte of storage; a 1 Gbit, built-in, Ethernet-wired port and an 802.11g wireless link; and a graphics processor that runs three times faster than those on the market today...

Hum, i thought i could get away with my 2.8 athlon...oh well..

And pocketpc2003 already needs hardware that is equal or more powerful than Win3.1s hardware:-)

But i know i won´t use Windows Longhorn at home because the eula at that point will give ms the rigth to rectaly examine your pets and chemically analys your food to make sure you don´t pirate any of their software. And it will ship with the tools to do it:-)

I´m sure Aros tcp/ip will be finnished before Longhorn, I mean its atleast two years left.... :-D

The guy that drafted the Hardware Requirements must have been an Amiga user.

"This is unacceptably slow, it ran fast enough on machine 3, what were the specs on that one?"

Perhaps its a cunning bit of psychological manipulation.

1) Announce "fantastic" features

2) Take ages over ir

3) Reccommend a ludicrously high spec that's really way beyond what's needed

4) Release it

When all the 2GHz single CPU people find it runs fine they'll all go round saying how brilliant it is because it runs so well on their poor spec

Or maybe XP will be a half-decent OS by then so people won't be inclined to "upgrade" :-)

You've got more chance of seeing Michael Jackson and Britney getting married and adopting Kelly Osbourne than seeing XP become a half-decent OS :-P

Vincent, you have a vivid imagination.

Vivid? Nah, it's not that good, it's just very warped ;-)

Hum,
yea, you probably need a warp-engine to provide the power to run and cool that beast...

Hum, i wonder where they`ll put the jefferies tube?

Why just stop with the warp-engine?  Why not make it a right beast and put in a flux capacitor aswell?

Let's all go back to 1986 :-D

I canny dae that!
Use a dipole flux capacitor Aswell (near to Roswell)?
Hum, according to the standard issue warp engine manual:  ... Slush deuterium enters the inlet manifolds, to be sent to the warp engine nacelles ...

Btw, seems as if PC world have received their beta copy of longhorn and they felt it was `sluggish` on their 3 Ghz Xt98000 machine...

[time to dump the core?]
