Title: Bostonian phrases
Post by: PGit on May 04, 2004, 04:33:06 PM
If ever you decide to visit the town of Boston (Lincolnshire,UK)you may need to know some local phrases. Here are a few.

"Urrghhh!".
This can mean many things depending on such factors as the context and tone of the voice. It is commonly a greeting and can be translated as "Greeting to you, I hope you have a fine day"

"Wot!?"
Translates roughly as "I'm sorry I didn't quite catch that, could you repeat it please"

"Wanna fight!?"
Translates to "You have offended me, I therefore challenge you to a duel, sir!"

Well, here are some Groninger phrases:

"(hol die dien) bek jong!" - ("please keep your mouth shut")

"Hou wodt?"                - ("what shall it be?")

"mos klap hebm?"           - ("do you want to be punched?")

Note: the orthography might not be accurate.
