I doubt you will get generic settings for a mega fast Amiga.

i assume you are emulating OS3.9 - which is the only one i would want to have.

still haven't decided whether i want to run WinUAE or run UAE on the linux OS i'll be installing soon. (red hat, if it matters)

Trial and error...

I think the older versions of winUAE are less compatable, but faster.

Download a few version, if it`s demos you want to run then the newest version is probably needed.
But if it`s just basic stuff then the older version numbers don`t have the extra code and tweaks  to slow them down...

The later versions have JIT which gives a tremendous increase in performance - about 5 to 10 times faster would be my guess - although your mileage may vary ;-)
You need to emulate a full '020 as a minimum for it to work though, and have some JIT cache.
You only get decent speed if running on a Picasso96 screenmode, otherwise the emulation gets tied up in emulating pal.

It depends on what you are using UAE for. I mainly use the workbench and programs associated with that. In this case you would first of all like to install  picasso 96 and let the amiga belive that UAE has got a graphics card attached. This gives a huge speedup (And nice screen resolution). At the same time I like to give all the horsepower to the CPU and I choose the oldest chipset setting (ocs). At the same time allow as much memory to the JIT-engine as possible.
Dont know if this is the best sollution but im faily pleased with it.
