Title: Using downloaded software on an Amiga?
Post by: evil_nerd on April 29, 2004, 11:03:43 AM
Hello,

is it possible to use downloaded software on an Amiga 500? Like games from www.back2roots.com ? Because I one time bought an old Amiga 500 without accosoirs, I'm going to *repair* it. But I don't have software at all (not even Workbench (unless someone can send me a copy, hehehe))... I can make a network with a PC via serial or paralel port. But I don't have diskettes to install it to the PC's harddrive. Is it possible to install it on the PC's harddrive with a program (emulator or something) and then choose which program to load on the Amiga (and how?). Or is there a way of loading PC formatted diskettes with the Amiga (I thought there was some kind of program for, but I don't have that on diskette... ) I also don't have workbench on diskette (yes I have it in ADF  ) Or is there some kind of program which puts an ADF on diskette?

PS is there any program which can put files on an ADF?

But I wanna use my Amiga back again... I don't have any software anymore, no workbench at all. So it won't be possible to put a program as Term on the floppy so I cannot reseave programs on my amiga  :-?  Or is it???

-edit-
anyone? please? help me out  :-(  Isn't it possible to put some files on my computer, connect the computer to the amiga, and then boot the amiga, that the amiga would just think a hard drive is connected to it and then I can use the files on the hard-drive of my pc (just thinking  :-? )

No (except if your A500 has HDD controller).

If you lack all software (no Workbench or Extras disk with AmigaBASIC) you need to somehow get the needed sw (Terminal app or XFS (http://www.aminet.net/disk/misc/xfs.lha) to read PC 720k floppies, for example) on bootable amiga floppy disk. Perhaps try locating the closest amiga user group?

HDD controller? You mean that slot on the left of the Amiga, where you could plug in an external HDD??? I have that thing :P

Do you have the slot or the thing that actually plugs into it?

you still need a copy of Workbench, if there's not one installed on the Hard drive already.

@Evil Nerd
You could buy a Catweasel controller for the PC

btw there are no silly questions here on Aorg (not if not on purpose that is)
