Title: A-600 problems
Post by: on April 24, 2004, 08:46:03 PM
I have problems with 2 A-600's.
The first 600 boots up, but the workbech is
coloured purple! With prefs/palette i tried to
change the colour but the green rgb-slider doesn't
seem to work! Very strange.
I tried it also with an SD/FF on another (SVGA)-monitor, but then the screen remains black. Maybe the video-output
is broken?

The other 600 doesn't boot up at all! If i turn on
the power, only the green power-led is blinking slowly.

Wath's the matter with these A-600's?

Hoya!

Regarding the colour problem... Video cables are quite stiff and tend to get loose around their soldering...
So, while all is on, try to gently move the cable to see what happens... If nothing happens, it could be some looseness of the plug itself.
Well, that is what I guess anyway... :-P

BTW, I plugged my Amiga on a TV some months ago and, while the machine runs perfectly, the diplay was slightly purple...

Be funky

I had the "purple phenonemon" too, on my A500 when I first bought it... It turned out a led had a bad connection in the SCART connection to the tv, because when I tapped on the connector, the colours were fine.. So I suggest you try another one, and if it doesn´t work, perhaps there is a bad connection on the motherboard to you RGB plug..

I believe the reason it is blinking slowly, is because there is something plugged incorrectly in the A600..probably the one meg Chip underneath in the trapdoor........or something is making contact with it....if its not that, then its the Harddrive (the cable might not be plugged in totally......if not that........then something is making contact with the HD's circuit board (make sure its fully protected!)

If you have an Apollo/Winner Trubo board 630...it could have slipped some.

or your external devices might not be fully plugged in ( or your power supply aint powerfull enough to handle all the stuff you may have hooked up to it)

its gotta be one of those, I'm sure. I AM AN EXPERT when it comes to damaging Amigas hehe. I know all the reasons why Ive burned them.

I don't have a accelerator card or harddrive hooked on it,
not even the one-Meg in the trapdoor. So that couldn't be the problem.

When i hook it on the tv, everything just seems to be fine.
It's only become purple when i use the video-output to the 1942-monitor. The monitor is working correct on my A4000.

On the purple A600, it sounds like the green RGB component is not working.
Sometimes this can be caused by a coil in the delay line Z222 going open circuit.

The SD/FF probably requires power from the RGB port, check that you have +5V on pin 23 and +12V on pin 22.

Check the RGB output using a C= 1942 or similar monitor.

Using an oscilloscope, check you have RGB signals on input pins 2, 3 and 4 of the video encoder U12, and you have RGB output on pins 21, 22, 23.
It's also possible U12 is faulty.

A600 schematics here if you need them:

As for the green LED flashing A600, it sounds like it's constantly resetting.
Probably a bit harder to find.  Could be anything from memory access problems, CPU problems, ROM problems, etc.
