Title: Is it just a sneaky scam spam, ma'am?
Post by: weirdami on April 23, 2004, 09:02:56 PM
There's some website called "Share Your Experiences" that has sent me several "alert" emails saying that someone is posting about me on their site. It gives a link to whatever was posted, but I've never clicked on the link because I'm unsure if it's just another one of those scams to confirm my address. I visited their website by chopping off all the extra stuff on the URL to just have the domain, but I haven't searched for my email address with their search feature for the same reason.

Is this a legit thing?

Here's an offhanded way I found of showing you the URL. Some website has it listed as a spam site and this (http://www.rhyolite.com/cgi-bin/spam-group?group=197) is the "related domains" page. I guess at least someone considers it badness. Maybe it's the electronic form of an itchy nose because someone is talking about you. Ugh.

I'd say go with your intstincts and let it be. No point clicking through and getting on a sucker list.
