I need to buy a new 2,5" hdd and put it into my good old trustworthy A1200.
But there's a problem: I'm not what you can call an hardware-freak. New UATA 2,5" HDD have a 48pin connector! How can I plug'em to my poor Miggy's IDE port???

It's 44pin. The four pins beside the data connector are for jumpers.

Considering the fact the Amigas onboard controler is 44pin and that drive is 44 pin you shouldn't have any problems. Just make sure you plug it in the right side and not try and plug it in to the jumper block, but there is a gap, so it should be obvious.

Yea, fairly easy to fit....
Should be no problem at all.
Though it is possible to fit a `standard` 40pin 3.5" HD in there. (there maybe an unsightly bulge)..(you need a floppy power extension cable and 44-->40 IDE cable)
My advanced tip for today:
if you notice after a soft-reset the hard drive is no longer recognised; then cut pin 1 on the IDE cable (usually the one with the stripe, and theres a `number` on the Mobo/Hd), careful not to cut any other cable wire...
This disconnects the reset signal...
This will probably not affect any modern 2.5" HD...

Should I configure these jumpers as well? How do they work?

Don't do anything and 99.999% of the time it'll work as the master drive.
You should be able to find the jumper config either printed on top of the drive or from the manufacturer's website, but like you might guess from the percentage above, you usually don't need to mess with them.
