Also I would like that that the printer be 100% compatible with Linux.

That's one reason I went and got a Cannon MultiPass F60. I figured it would be cheaper to buy the Black, Cayon, Magenta, and Yellow cartridges than the Black and Color cartridges for the el cheapo $20-$40 printer I had. I was paying about $20 for Black and $25 for Color at Walmart for my old Epson Stylus 400. Now I can get a whole set (B,C,M,Y) for my Canon for little over $20. It was just sickening to pay more for total ink replacement than the printer cost.

Hi,

Have you ever thought of a refill kit? I can refill my HP many times before the head wears and I need a new one. It's CHEAP.

I try one time with me compact, and it was such mess that I don’t think that compact (Lexmark) make it easy for normal user to refill the Cartridges.
What about the laser printers, me friend has an Epson laser and is very easy for him to recharge the Cartridges but is only black, there is laser color? Does anyone know are you can recharge the laser color?

@pablotinch :-)

Hello :-)

For a VERY good printer, you can go for a Canon one :-)

You will get : borderless printing, four to eight (!) ink cartridges, on-CD-Rom printing (DVD too), superior print quality (photo prints are really fabulous), looooooow ink tanks prices and long time use :-)

I'm using Canon printers since the early 90' and never been disapointed by it :-)

Now for the Linux compatibility, go for Turboprint linux, have a look at www.turboprint.de for more details.

Good printing :-D

Well :-)

All Canon printers takes Four ink tanks at a minimum, so you will have Cyan, Magenta, Yellow and Black cartriges in every models.

Photo Printers can have two more ink : 50% density Cyan and 50% density Magenta, known as PhotoCyan and PhotoMagenta, some will sports one additional Black cartridge (Matt Black) and/or RED and GREEN (yes!) ink cartridges (i9XXX A3+ Photo model).

You can check all the printers on www.canon.com.

@pablotinch

  The quality is very good. Printouts from the flatbed scanner look almost like the original (even closer on matching papter). You should still be able to buy one. Though it looks like it's been replaced with the MultiPass MP 700 (http://www.usa.canon.com/html/conCprProductDetail.jsp?modelid=9034§ion=10223#specs). It's the same features, just a new case colour and name.
