I thought a similar thread was quite interesting on Mozillazine, so I thought I'd run it here as well :-)
My desktop, half size (http://www.legolas.com/mikes/desktop.png)
My desktop, full size (http://www.legolas.com/mikes/desktop-fullsize.png)
The thread on mozillazine (http://forums.mozillazine.org/viewtopic.php?t=65985&highlight=)
Please don't IMG your desktops, URL them. Otherwise forum page width goes bonkers.
I put this in alternative operating systems as it's not Amiga-specific, and more likely than not, most replies aren't going to be strictly Amiga-related :-)

Hmm... Here's a picture of my desktop. It's been resized to 800x600. Don't ask about the video playing. :P I did this screenshot for another unrelated board and that is kind of an in-joke. :P
My desktop (http://www.501st.ca/officail/desktop.jpg)
P.S.
All the software displayed are legal versions (ie: bought, have originals) except for anything that's freeware and GPL of course. ;)

Where can I get that A1200 backdrop ?
It was in the OS4 CAM a month or two ago.
Just looked it up:

With Amiga Workbench running on top of it. I have an older Powerbook 5300CE from 1996. It's all I use, it gets me on the internet, and its basically all I need in a computer. Had I still had email on my A1000 that we had back in the early 90's Id still have it as my main PC. :-)

Well, it kinda looks like this (http://www.jumpy.demon.co.uk/tmp/kde.jpg) at the present point in time.

My Desktop (http://pages.infinit.net/ronaldst/MyDesktop.jpg) 8-)
It's Windows XP with StyleXP using a QNX skin.
-
@angrybrit
Is that because you haven`t found a good skin of Amiga?
i `ve got style, but i didn`t like the skins i found...i use windowblind3.x ...i have, and just tried windowblinds 4.05 but it`s not got explorer backdrops!
-
@blobrana
Is that because you haven`t found a good skin of Amiga?
Yes. I haven't found a good skin.... yet. I guess I'm too picky.
Most skins using StyleXP are horrible and fulla problems UI wise. The QNX skin is one of the better ones. I comes with the Panther OSX skin but I'm tired of seeing it.
Here's where I get my skins:

hee hee, i can see where this thread is going. soon it'll be the top result for google search "porno wallpapers" :-)
-
hmm...
I don't know why people are so interested in this sort of thing.
Instead of showing you a pic of my desktops, I'll describe them! :)
MS-Windows: Plain old win 95/98 green, with standard win98 icons. Nothing special.
MorphOS: Standard icons scaled down. Background pic is tiled 'autumn' picture I found, which is basically brownish leaves etc. MUI is configured with fairly ordinary 'marble' patterns.
Amiga A 4000 T: Standard icon set. "Dogs Playing Poker" pic as my background ;). ReAction uses a subdued green leaves background. Font is a large (18 or 20 pt) Times type font.
Linux: Grey 'swirly patterns' as my background. Standard KDE dull crappy yellow borders with customized gadget positions. Standard icons.
Now I go and eat...

I know everyone's been waiting with baited breath for me to post these..

Something I've never really understood is the desktop fetischism concerning pictures of ones desktop showing nothing more than a background picture...? I mean, that doesn't really feel like a descriptive desktop shot to me, it is more like a snapshot of a wallpaper in action...

Doh...
I just downloaded StyleXP to see some new desktops, I saw somebody else on this thread was using it. I never should have downloaded that crap- it installed 30+ spyware in Windows. Beware.

Yep... All you need is the XPStyle.dll or something like that. (Don't quote me on the name, but it's a single DLL that will let you choose any style in your desktop settings, instead of only signed MS ones.) It was a real bugger to swap out that single DLL, though, as Windows detects the DLL change, and wants to put it's signed version back. Why can't Windows be this protective when Spyware tries to replace files?? Even just a yes/no prompt would be nice. (Grumble, grumble... Stupid Microsoft.)

it's to protect kids randomly mashing the keyboard and "deleting" the windows folder :-?
but yeah, you have to go into safe mode
-
it's to protect kids randomly mashing the keyboard and "deleting" the windows folder
Well, yeah... But, obviously, the detection routine is there... Why don't they use it to warn against Spyware? Or to Codecs that get hosed by an idiotic install script? To me, these are two things that are much more likely to happen than someone going in and hap-hazardly changing/altering/deleting DLLs manually. (which was why I tangented on a "stupid Microsoft" rant.)
-
it's to protect kids randomly mashing the keyboard and "deleting" the windows folder
Actually, you can't access the windows folder on xp by default. You have to change some sttings in explorer to get in there, so IMHO no kids could "accidently" delete anything there. What I hate about Win**** is that you have no control on what is actually installed. If some amiga-installer tried something like spy-ware, I would know the instant it was installed by looking in wb-startup, s:startup-sequence and s:user-startup. Windows' settings should have been just as easy to navigate. the registry is quite a task to keep track of.........impossible IMHO.

Here's a picture of my Workbench at the moment:
http://homepages.nildram.co.uk/~amigaos/AmigaOS39_April2004.png
It changes fairly regularly, I get bored of the look and try something else. Mainly I change the backdrop for the Workbench and Amidock.
The only problem I do find is that I've got to drop the backdrop if I want to run any Warp3D games because otherwise there's not enough free memory for P96 (thank Elbox for that one) I don't tend to run games on my miggy that often so generally it's not a problem.
It's AmigaOS3.9 running on an A1200

Wow. Sure you didn't fake any of that? :-)
If you didn't, I have to say, that's the best-looking Amiga desktop I've seen.

It's really fun seeing all the Amiga GUI fads from over the years... MagicWB, Newicons, Glowicons, now PNG icons...
And they say Mac users are image obsessed! :-D
-
And they say Mac users are image obsessed!
There's a significant difference between "us" and "them Mac users". AmigaOS by default is a very basic-looking OS. MacOS's default look is what most Mac users tend to use, give or take a few tweaks. We put more effort into it :-)
-
Heh, unfortunately I'm no graphics artist so faking that would take me far longer than twiddling with the settings in Workbench ;-)
Here's my desktop too:
http://homepages.nildram.co.uk/~amigaos/Desktop.jpg
And before you lot say "Hah caught you! You're running Windows, I can see the same media player running on your laptop!"
a) Windows could never look that good
b) It's AmigaAMP running the same skin as WinAMP.
It's a very nice skin actually - Kalak Amplifier. If you're an AmigaAMP user and you've not seen this skin, get it!

The default MacOS X Interface looks amazing imho, most Mac users tend to agree.
There are many ways to change the look of MacOS X but I don't really go further than changing the backdrop because I love the default look.
