I have this old star LC200 printer that would be very usefull for office stuff.
I tried it out on my PC, with the windows drivers, and with other star drivers I found, but no luck.
It used to work on my A500 so I decided to try it on the A1200. The printer is compatible with some Epson printer whose driver I tried, but I even found an official dedicated driver on Aminet! No luck.
I though the printer was broke and gave up. That was an year ago.
Today, just by ocasion I pulled out the dusty A500 and found that the printer only works with the A500!!!! :-D
Is the parallel port of the A1200 diferent?
-
No the parallel ports are not different. I can't think of any reason why it would only work with the A500.
-
Try using the "Generic" driver on the A1200.

If everything you said is true, then some voodoo is going on, but I've seen this kind of Voodoo before.
I had an external 28.8 modem at one time I was using on an A3000. Well i upgraded to a Prometheus with a 8029 ethernet card and put the miggy on DSL. A short time later I tried to use the modem on another PC with no luck. After some troubleshooting I came to the determination the modem would only work on an Amiga using Miami. The modem must have been semi broken, and miami's way of acessing it must be somewhat different than a PC with Wintendo.

stange that it didnt work with the win machine also/
windows can use the star240 driver...
the 1200 should work.
Try a differant cable. Maybe it`s that the port is making a proper contact on the 500, ( because it`s worn?).
Ther is a site with amiga specific drivers on it.http://www.blizzard.u-net.com/download.html (http://www.blizzard.u-net.com/download.html) :-D

You might want to investigate if there are any DIP switches which may be set to make the printer work a certain way for Amigas. DIP switches may also control printer emulation, if your printer supports that. This may explain your problem, perhaps your printer is set to emaulate another machine, because there was no specific driver at the time. I remember I had an old commodore MPS-1000 which had MANY DIP switches. I eventually got it to work with a PC after finding the manual and flipping some DIP switches. Good Luck!

Hi guys. No way. Everything you said I've already done! The printer restarts after I reboot, on any system, wether WB3.1 on my A1200, WB1.3 on the A500, and even on Winblows98. But it only prints on the A500. Go figure. :-? I'm gonna try WB1.3 on the A1200 when I get home.

Are you using the same printer cable? Sometimes if a cable is too long, it becomes marginal. Another possibility is variation of 8520 chips in the Amiga. You might try getting a shorter cable for the 1200.

I have a Star LC24-200 here and it worked on my friends 1200 and 4000, never used it myself though.
Although it used to be a bit dodgy.
