It's always fun to get new toys.  It's just bad that this one doesn't come with the right "batteries" (OS4).  Hope you are familiar with Linux. :-)

Might have a few myself when I get home.  Stella :-)

That means that we won't be seeing you for a while then... ;-)

He said he is. [familiar with Linux] And I'm sure he will have fun. :-) Even if it's without OS4, but hey, it's one half of the final product, and it works. :-) For some it's half not getting what he wanted, but I think it's rather he has got half of what he wanted :-)

Please make a small review of the hardware for us :)

yo, i'm  happy for you and will take a rip out of a miniature-ceramic-toilet pipe in you honor.  not be offended, its a super clean hitter that meddles with the beautiful scent very minimally..

myself i'm waiting for os4 preinstalled, prechecked and prerecieved rave reviews from Wayne himself. I'd like a double-G4 but there isn't any reason aG3 wont compete nicely with my demands (mainly to set up mp3s of my own music+video swipes/titling)
while i primarily use standalone devices for all my actual recording/ editing/ mastering
Octamed (together with even some slight hardware back) is still extremely powerful by all standards. i hope there will be an os4 version. i just love all those zeros that can be filled up with numbers and letters... back in the day it wen't great with bong hits around the clock while jaming, listening  to the results, recording to a 4track together with other instuments.....got a bit carried away,, haven't i?
oh, we nostalgic farts....

he recieved what might soon contain the A (os4) in A1, therefore establishing it an A1.

what he has right now is a ppc box of linux....

I am happy for you. Hope it will work allright (with your chosen memory modules and stuff like that). I am looking forward to see your first post here on amiga.org from that A1 (in linux (and of course even more from OS4)) and I hope that you are able to put together some kind of a review and post it here. Try to make it as unbiased as possible and include your personal reflections and feelings from different stages (opening the package, putting the HW togehter, turning the power on and installing Linux, bootin linux and using it, and so on) ...

I just feel a little bit sorry that you can not use it as an Amiga at the moment. But that will hopefully change in the near future.

Personally, I will soon be home to my Pegasos With MorphOS, hehe ...  ;-) :-D

BTW, how much memory did you order? I got 512 MB, and GOD was that an overkill in an Amiga envireonment!!! ;-) I had been away from Amiga for a while and was kind of used to the wintel boxes standard when I placed that order.

Well, at least I have a nearly unlimited RAM: drive! :-D  :-D

Processor power is of course nice. But everyone doesn't need a rendering-farm-kind-of-super-computer, and you (as a normal user) would actually be surprized by how far you will get with a G3 @ 600 MHz in a PPC native Amiga envireonment. :-)

I'm sure you'll have something interesting to say when you head back to work tomorrow.

I can't wait for my G4 to get here...  In February or March, I guess.  I'm not really in a huge hurry for it though - at least until OS4.0 is ready.

I got to play around with OS4.0 briefly at the Ottawa Amiga Show, and I am really looking forward to seeing it at 800mhz.

Either way, I have to admit I'm somewhat jealous.

So where are all the reviews?

The mods here were wondering why there are x thouasand signed up users but only a few of them active. I've been haunting these parts for awhile (since last august) and have been patiently waiting for a good, solid, in depth review. I havn't seen any yet.

There has to be at least 1 A1 and 1 Peg sitting in someones house being used.

If you don't want to write a review up, send it to me! I'll do it.

Hi,

Friday morning, back at work. That sucks. Anyway, the A1 is in a fine shape. But I got some troubles booting the Installer CD. First indication was a badly burned cd so I re-burned it again. But still the same prob. So it is something else. Now I am ruling out several things that can cause the prob. Tonight I wil go on with it since I ran out of time early this morning.

I got an error when booting into PPCBoot and then inserting a CD. To get around this 'Magic' error just type 'ide reset' and the cd will be read.

Hi,

Short update:

After 1 day I got my A1 to boot the installer cd. It was a memory problem.

Now I am in search for a new driver for the Ati Radeon 7000 to get the X-windows system setup.

You mean no Radeon drivers on the CD ?

And that after hundreds and thousands of betatesters have
been working to get several Linux-distros going ?

Concentrating on one working distro may have been wiser ;)

But didn't I say I would get mine before yours ?
And that is ordering 6 months later  :-P  :-D  :-o

While we're waiting for coder to get back with us, I thought that everyone might want to see how well the google translator works on french..I think it's french.

So here it is....
French turned into english by the google translator!!

À-Come is felt to us to being the CTO/VP of Amiga Inc.?
E' be a lot moving but me incute also much fear. Moving because e' nearly like being a child in a store of dolciumi, having your company to put molding on to your piacimento (even if a lot soon you become account, also like technician, than the world they e' constituted for 90% of reunions trades and quarrels on who take how much). Frightening because like CTO of Amiga, everyone expects from you the support of the own version and the own dreams of cio' that e' Amiga, than in realta' e' one what much staff. Not there e' however null' other that I would wish to make of piu' (that mandera' in depression the not little persons).

Ah, Coder, you just don't know how to do this right :-D

"Even better" ?!

...When you could have written:

"Oh, Imation? - She is like the sun's gentle rays shining
down through the newly-sprung leaves one early spring
morning. She fills my eyes and heart with such blinding light
that I could not even begin to comprehend the extent of
what she makes me feel - and even less descibe it to you
people, who have not had the fortune of seeing her in all her
real-life splendor. The photographic technique is simply not
good enough to catch but a mere fraction of Imation's
beauty and grace.
"

Now that's how you commend a girl's beauty. :-D

What you should have said is this...

my question was, "is imation as beautiful in real life as she is in her picture"?

He should have responded, "Mister, there aren't enough pictures in this world neither are there any words that can be spoken that can accurately describe the nature of her beauty".

and yes mz, this is my real picture.
Got a problem with it?

You guys are just too much!         :-D

You're that dude that was on t.v. about 5 or 6 years ago.
Made all those people believe that a ufo was behind that comet and led them all to thier deaths.

Am I correct?

The darkside,  I sense within you.

well, the fact is most of you seem more excited about her than the AmigaONE. I can understand that. Remember: the "amiga" too are a woman you know... (in spanish that is...)

Of coarse.  Discussing your attractiveness is far more pleasurable than any number of flames that could have popped up over the real topic!

Think about it, what sounds nicer:

post-1: "Hahaha F00L, you're going to be using linux forever!"

post-2: "What are ya' talking bout ya' MOS freak?!!?"

post-3: "Growl! You I KILL"

                               OR

post-1: "Hubba Hubba!"

post-2: "Imation is like silhouette cast in time, an eternal beauty forever etched in my mind."

Well... after some of the other posts as of late...  You decide.  Then again, even the quick to worship the ladies posts are disturbing in their own way.   Nope, sometimes a thread just can't win.
