Well, I am SOOOO close to having my beloved A1200 internet ready, and thought now would be a good time to pose a question or two.
Does the software that comes with OS 3.9 contain the proper software to connect to the internet via ethernet/cable modem? Or do I need to purchase Miami DX?
From what I could gather, I may need MDX depending on the type of cable service in my area, but I thought that perhaps OS 3.9 has a more modern version of Genesis.
Thanks in advance for the info! ...SOON, my plans wil be COMPLETE....HAHAHAHA :-)
-
You can't buy miami dx anymore you can only get time limited demo off aminet.
-
Thanks Elektro. O.K, I just found out that the local service here uses DHCP. Does anyone know if Genesis in 3.9 supports this? Thanks again!
-
No, u have to wait until Roadshow comes out or get a windows/linux machine and set that up as a gateway for amiga.
-
Doesn't Miami DX (if theoretically i could find it) support DHCP?
-
Yes.
I also wish Kruse would release it as abandonware since he stopped developing it all together.
-
Me too! I remember reading somewhere about that stupid key that nobody can get....well thanks a lot for your help, I'll keep my eye out for mdx. :-D
-
No problem. :-)
-
is it me or are a lot of people avatars breaking on here lately?
what is meant to be my gif is actually a piece of html telling me i dont have permission to access it :(
oh and BTW you dont need to get a PC or linux box, a router will do a nice job too, thats the route (excuse the pun) I would take and will
take when i go broadband.
-
Yeah that will do too and theyre not that expensive anymore.
-
O.K guys, thanks. I hope this all works when I'm done! :-)
-
I would think that even though Holger has stopped development of MiamiDX, you could still register it from his web site.. http://www.nordicglobal.com.
A simple email to him would answer that.
I have MiamiDX, and yes it does do DHCP.
-
Damn...I thought this thread was long gone!:-)
Thanks for the info though. I actually found a
different ISP, so Genesis has been working
great.
-
Go get a router. Genesis in 3.9 worked fine with that, you can specify an IP for the amiga and point it (gateway) to the router IP.
But I think Miami is the better stack to use.
