Hello,
Went out to club yestereday and got plastered. Is there a official cure for a hangover? I am asking cos many of you old timers have "been here and done that" :-)
-edit-
I was so off my {bleep}ing trolly, i was performing like that gimp in my avatar!
-
LOL!
The best way is to drink a large glass of water after every second beer, or something like that. Hangovers are often due to de-hydration.
Also, the purer the booze is, the chance of you getting hung over is smaller.
-
My hangover cure is as follows (thankfully I don't 'drink to get drunk' anymore!)
Strong cup of tea
Shower/bath
Greasy fry-up/other substantial food
Fruit juice/fresh fruit
Gentle exercise (like a short walk)
If its REALLY bad, then Lucozade will help, also a spliff (but only a small one) if all else fails :-).

Yeah, I did forget that one!

no, serious, two or three beer, and you've completely forgotten your hangover. (hell, I survived whole summers with it)
If you can't do that, drink milk, eat kiwi's, take a hot bath/shower, drink tea, take an aspirin with water, take much rest, and listen to very relaxed music.
I also once survived a severe hangover on school with just a coffee.

.357 magnum. Problem is it only works once.

I'm not used to such an American attitude from you KennyR!

Impossible.

dont get as drunk
not quite as drastic as the above, just find your favourite pint and gently sup on that, dont be doing shooters and causing yourself to fall over. after all there's not really much point is there!? if i wanted to get rid of all my money and get nothing but bruises and a headache in return i could pay someone to beat me with a baseball bat.

Exactly what I used to think. It's simply stubborness to admit to yourself that you can't or won't drink sensibly. But one alcoholic stupor too many and you can come to change that opinion ;-)
Giving up alcohol is one thing I have never felt the slightest regret over.

I asked my daughter, she said she'd prescribe an antidiuretic and Infomil. :-)

I recovered as the day went on yesterday. I spent the morning sleeping and drinking water. Then i decided that the fresh air may do me some good. Had a 3 hour walk around the park and felt better at the end. Didn't have much to eat apart from tuna sandwich and cereal. Recovered fully to watch footie match! :-) Wasn't much fun cleaning up the {bleep} that shot out of my mouth though a few hours before though! I will follow this list next time!!!
Cheers! :pint:

Just had a quick straw poll in the office for hangover cures... Personally, mine are as follows:
A long workout in the gym
Mountain Biking
A glass of lemonade with a spoonful of table salt added
Other colleagues have suggested the following;
Sex (quite a popular choice)
Having another drink
Going to work
Staying in bed
A full English breakfast...
A glass of orange juice followed by a sweet coffee

NO! DON'T do that when you got a headache! That's deadly.
Going to work
depends what kind of work you do...

Not to mention the usual problems with Dog Breath the next morning, plus - in the circumstances where a nightclub and large amounts of alcohol were involved - do you really want to have sex with the person next to you who'se name you just can't recall....
Don't laugh, it's happened....
-
I was rather thinking of "handy shandy"
-
Hum,
"it's happened..."to a guy you know?
Anyway wise words...
i` personally recommend some sort of isotonic drink, and,
although i don`t condone it,
drugs...
:-)
[No, not that!]

That comment has brightened my day!
And its 'Hand shandy' by the way :)

Prevention really is better than cure, most of the time I don't drink so I don't have to worry about hangovers.
However when do go out for a substantial drink next, I'll have to remember to drink water every other drink, although I have heard that advice before... just not used it yet.

Hi All,
A friend turned me on to a Mexican dish, Menudo,A soup that takes some getting used to. Good hot sauce and some corn tortillas and your on your way, doesn't take to long to work either.

Didn't Menudo break up a while ago?

Dehydration is indeed a big component, just chugging water or Gatorade before you pass out helps a lot.
I find that a huge amount of Vitamin C in the morning also helps; something like the 1g? capsules people used to think would fight off colds, or a ton of OJ... but go for the acid-reduced stuff, considering you've just stripped off your stomach lining. (Figure the deal with the C is that it is diuretic, and thus cleans out any residual alcohol faster... Could be the tweak to blood pH or the general healthy 'antioxidant' aspect as well.)
IIRC, whatever the Russian 'hangover cure' getting marketed around was, it was just a B-vitamin supplement, probably little different than what you get in a Red Bull. There's supposedly some (prescription/orphaned?) nootropic that can block an alcohol hangover entirely, but I can't find the reference -- and said reference was on a pro-GHB site, so take that how you will.
---
Speaking of things you don't want to mix with alcohol or hangovers, I'd be wary of Tylenol/acetaminophen/paracetamol; presumably the guy who blew his liver out was mixing them with drink, but as I understand it it's safer to stick with the NSAIDs (Advil/ibuprofen) or Aspirin when you have alcohol in your system. (Except for the risk of stomach problems or blood-thinning complications with those -- no free lunch, but it's easier to treat an ulcer than transplant a liver.)
---
Edit: Oh yeah, lemonade with a dash of salt (barely even a dash, something like a quarter teaspoon to two quarts) makes a sort of poor man's Gatorade, but go easy on the salt, or 1. you'll be no better off than drinking seawater, and 2. ...read the 'instructions' on a box of Epsom Salts sometime, if you go against the osmotic gradient, not only are you pulling water out of your system, but it'll have to leave through a different route... :-D
"Hair of the dog" does work for some (never for me, go figure), but a summer's worth puts you at risk for things like "wet brain," not particularly fun.
-
Ouch...
After three nights on the razz in succession I'm feeling pretty bad this morning. The cumulative effect of three days worth of drinking isn't much fun.
Still it's all in a good cause - not only is it my birthday on Tuesday, but I'm going to try out some of the hangover cures and see how I get on.....
:-D
