I've fitted a fireball 20gig 3.5" hd into my 1200t, and installed wb3.1 to it and it only shows 1.2gig out of the 20gig? so I then installed os3.9 and now the hd wont boot the amiga keeps going to the software error screen. So I reinstalled wb3.1 again and then install os3.9 and it keeps doing the same thing every time. but boots fine if 3.1 is the os but wont find the whole 20gigs. If I boot from the wb 3.1 floppy, every thing seems to be correct for os3.9 to boot but it doesnt?
setup is just a A1200,3.1roms and an apollo 040 nothing really to cause any hassle. I've also tryed booting with the 040 out but it still wont boot. :pissed:

First create an OS3.9 emergency disk and boot from it. Use the HDToolbox from the emergency disk to install your hdd. Make sure the values for Heads, Sectors and Cylinders are large enough to make 20gig (check the total number of blocks to match those from the hdd manual). Then create a 1 or 2gig boot partition (must be below 4GB !) and one or more work partitions. Make sure under Add/Update the FastFileSystem version 44+ is installed.
Now reboot, format the partitions and install OS3.9 on the boot partition. Remove the emergency disk and reboot. Should be fine now.
Note that the boot partition always must be in the lower 4GB of the hdd. Also OS3.1 (including Kickstart 3.1 which is active after power-up) is not cappable to see beyond the first 4GB of any hdd. You have to boot from an OS3.9 partition (or floppy disk) first which loads the needed drivers to access the area above 4GB.
Bye,
Thomas

try booting from an emergency disk (as mentioned before). a good working filesystem is sfs from aminet (http://us.aminet.net/disk/misc/SFS.lha)
using it here w/o any problems. working fast and stable :-)
