If the Amiga.org domain sold (http://www.amiga.org/forums/showthread.php?t=45353) announcement is true, and it looks like Wayne is *not* joking, then what forum will you make your home?
I am just wondering where everyone is going to go once amiga.org as we know it is gone. I have no problem with other Amiga related sites, and I am a member of a some of them. Quite of few here do not like amigaworld.net, can't stand ann.lu, hate moobunny, believe morphzone.org is part of the dark-side, and think AROS (x86 based) is evil, so probably wont go to aros-exec.org.
So, where are you going to go?
-
I guess to:
www.thatpunkguy.co.uk
www.speelgoedmannetje.nl
www.t-bone.com
:-D
-
so wayne, was the announcment a hoax, or was it infact true?
I think more people would take it seriousely, if you verified this today.
I really thought it was a hoax myself, but now i am not so sure anymore..
-
It looks like I'm going to be spending most of my time at aros-exec.org for obvious reasons...
I hope to see you all there from time to time. :-)
But even that will not replace my affection for this site and all it members.
My biggest fear is that the three different Amiga Tribes will separate out to thier own little forums, never to see each other again :-(
-
amigaworld.net (as Chris_Y if anybody wants me). It's the only other place, isn't it? The rest are evil for whatever reason. :destroy:
aw.net tends to be a happy optimistic "red" site. :insane: I always liked amiga.org for that extra bit of balance between the different "camps", and the flaming between them is comparatively rare and kept under control unlike certain other places I could mention. This made it a nice site for all Amiga, AmigaOS and derivative based topics, and there is no other place like it. :boohoo:
It will be missed. :bigcry:
Chris :admonish:
(trying to use up my smiley quota before the site closes, in case anybody was wondering why I have five million times more smilies in this message than all the others I have ever posted combined )
-
If this true, and tbh I'm beginning to think it is, then I really will miss Amiga.org.
Thanks Wayne, we haven't always seen eye to eye, but if I were in your shoes I would have probably done the same thing.
Bring on the Lesbians... I wish I was one.
-
@Skyraker
If you had a sex change then you would technically be one..
-
If all this is true (and I still don't believe it) then Wayne should back up the system and hand it to someone else to host under a different name and domain (I cannot see how a "non-competition clause" could prevent this). I might spend a bit more time at AW.net, but like others have said, if A.org goes then we'll have lost the only peaceful site that all people can user, whatever their "colour" :-(

I'm a lesbian... I was just put in the wrong body :-(
-
So, where are you going to go?
Well let's see, first I'll cry like a little baby for a day or so (:-p), and then I'll go to plan b.

Plan b...?
-Edit- I notice you haven't registered on aros-exec yet :-)
-
Going? I'm already spending my time at www.aros-exec.org.
It has been good. I'll see ya all around on new boards. I suspect that the AROS community will grow, not shrink, over time. We'll get some new blood, a nice departure from Amiga, while being an evolution of it.
Strangedisk / rinnan on aros-exec
-
Join the lesbians at #amiga.org :-D
-
I'm sure that there are many people who would be willing to take on the website, even if there are costs involved. I'd consider it myself, if I knew the first thing about web forum hosting - I suppose that's where a good team of staff members comes in handy.
If this announcement is indeed true, then I would imagine Wayne will strike some deal to ensure the survival of the website. He may have had enough himself, but I'm sure he wont want to see the entire forum killed over this. I mean, it's not like he has any reason to see the forum die out of spite or anything silly like that.
Cheer up Amiga.org'ers, I don't think these will be the last days you enjoy hear at a.org. It may have a different domain in the near future, but that doesn't make it any different a website. All is not lost.
Brian

I'm already registered at aros-exec.org and amigaworld.net,
so I'll be at those two along with various C= 8-bit sites.
I will certainly miss this site though - it's been my home
page for a long time.

Careful now, you don't want to incite an "exodus" ;-)

Well I don't about the rest of you, but I plan to conduct a campaign of never ending D-O-S attacks on whom ever takes on the new Amiga.org domain! Who's with me??? :pissed: :pissed: :pissed:
- Mike
-
1. aros-exec.org
2.pegasos.org
3. morphzone.org/amigaworld.net
4.ann.lu
But I still don“t belive it, if it was for real it would have been confirmed with another news item by now.

Only if its KMOS, Amiga Inc or Genesi

Glaucus:
Thanks for the self incrimination! I'll be sure to pass on your comment and IP address. :-D
Really, you shouldn't be talking about commiting illegal activites. Joking or not.
-
First we lost all the great Amiga magazines and now all the cool Amiga web pages. The Amiga web directory used to be my favorite and when they went I came to Amiga.org. To be honest when Amiga.org goes I doubt I'll visit any Amiga web pages with the regularity that I visited it. :-?
-
Exodus! What is this the Bible?
Don't you frequent other Amiga News Sites?
I know I see many AO members on other Amige News sites.
I might not comment much or at all, but I do frequent AO (Duh!), AW, ANN, AROS-Exec, and occasionally Moobunny, Morphzone, Amiga-News.
-
I`m signed up at AW ready to rock`n`roll :afro:
Will miss this site alot though :-(
-
Well, I'm on Amigaworld.net, as Arikel_Tolifen, but it's just not the same. I DO go there, from time to time, but well, Amiga.org has been my home for too long to change. Sigh....I guess I'm going back to about:blank as my homepage. :-( :-( :-( :-( :-(
-
Sold downriver to lesbians. It could only happen to Amiga
I really hope its not true, but the portents don't seem too good.
I wonder if we could get a niche market for selling amiga/compatible systems to visitors of the new amiga.org ?

This seems a sensible suggestion. I realise the site data is probably quite large but I don't see any reason it couldn't be archived and revived under a different domain, even on a different server, if need be. I feel this should be looked into. Who cares what the site ends up being called? I sure don't.
www.amiga-no-not-the-lesbian-one.org ? :-D
-
Funny, but noone has mentioned the Amiga, Inc. Forums... :-?
-
Well duh. Ofcourse the announcement is true, and why do you think wayne's wife started spookychick.com? Why for all of us a.org refugees after next labour day ofcourse!
:-P
-
Hello all
I've read through this thread, and the news item regarding this issue. Does this truly mean that the days of computer discussion on this site are over? I am a little unclear as to what this transfer of the domain name really entails.
It is my hope that all of you NOT cease posting on Amiga sites. It would truly be a sad era in Amiga's history...
-
Wayne: Why cant you verify if it is true or a hoax??
Weird have not heard anything about this from wayne today... :-?
-
I suppose he`s tied-up with the lesbians...
(oh misses!)
But seriously, i can`t wait,
to read some decent posts here, when it happens... :-)
-
We could just change our name.

Quote Wayne from topic
http://www.amiga.org/forums/showthread.php?t=45353 (http://www.amiga.org/forums/showthread.php?t=45353)
The contract contains a 12 month non-compete clause, so aside from paying off all the bills that have been a direct result of this site, I'll be taking a bit of a vacation. If, after a year, there's still an Amiga community left, we'll examine the possibilities at that time.
I'm just very happy that the domain itself will go to good use.

Re: Where are you going once amiga.org is gone?

I'm going to hit REFRESH and hope it was all a bad glitch! :-(
-
Hi,
Sad days. Have been here for a long time, even had to rereg. a couple of times due to some fools messing with the site. Too bad.. Whaaa. Oh well.
Chris

:-? Did actually anyone noticed this:
Happy April Fool's Day 2004 from the staff and crew of Amiga.org!
(uncover it with selecting text)
anyway, IF Aorg would disappear, I'll be at Moe's :pint:
-
i can just see the looks on parents faces if they walk in on ther sons or daughters and amiga org is changed to a lesbian site . :-?
-
If I have one single regret over selling the site, it's that you took three whole days to see what was right in front of you all along. :-)
A little too early for an Easter egg, but still most enjoyable.
Wayne
-
Has anyone noticed the Winner of the april fools day award
in the uper right hand corner of this web site?
It has an interesting link :-D

Where are you going once amiga.org is gone?
Hmm, Phobos maybe?

:roflmao:

Now that's really odd. A buddy of mine did just that. During the transistion I asked him if he thought he'd be dating men afterwards and he told me that he had no interest in men, he just always felt of himself as a woman, so, yeah, he's now a lesbian. Hell of a programmer, too. Wrote a huge astrology package. One of the few folks who never made fun of my obsession for Amigas and lost causes.
as far as where I will go....I'm so stunned by finally finding a really good site I don't know what I'll do. Probably crawl down cellar and continue trying to make all my various Amiga/unix/linux boxes talk to one another.
-
OMG :-o
Gansevoort, NY, USA
That's the name of an old French teacher of mine, argh bad memories! And now you Americans named a town after him? Tsk :-).
-
:pissed: I knew it was an April Fool's joke, which I why I refrained from commenting on the news item for a day. But then it wasn't confirmed, so I thought it was real. Oh well.
-
You know how mention of lesbians always causes all the hackneyed old jokes - "I don't mind as long as I can watch", etc
Well in reference to what will-i-am just said, you know, I can imagine an elaborate ruse - a sad chap who can't get a girlfriend becomes a woman and then says he's a lesbian
;-)
Oh, and before anyone gets the wrong idea, I don't mean that's what the previous poster's friend did.
Doh, I'm becoming paranoid that people won't take what I say with a pinch of salt and so have to keep putting disclaimers in to my posts!
-
Is this the end as we know it??
Mike....

Apparently not... april, may, june and july fool...

Wheeze of the week, jape of the decade. I must say you guys really had me worried.

I was really worried a while there!

Good one Wayne.
I knew the announcement had to be an April Fool's joke, but I didn't see it right under my nose, until someone pointed it out above.
