Hi there
Well I'm not sure if this is the place for this question to go, but its here now so I may aswell ask it.
When I try to use unarc (os 3.9) I get an error that it cannot open xadmaster.library, version 8. I had a look on the os 3.9 cd and it has version 9.1 so I place that into my libs dir and it still didnt work, Then I download version 12.1 from aminet and that worked for a couple of days, now I get the cannot open xadmaster.library, version 8. So does anyone know what is causing this? or where I can get a hold of version 8 of xadmaster? Thanks in advance

The message means that it needs *at least* version 8. So if you install version 9 or 12, it will be totally happy.
But xad is a modular system, there are many more libraries loaded when xadmaster is opened. Try to run snoopdos and look which module is missing.
Perhaps it is just a short-on-storage condition ?
Bye,
Thomas

I ran snoopdos (great little tool) and I noticed that it checks the program dir for xadmaster.library, and it was'nt there so I simply added xadmaster.library into the sys:tools and it works prefect. Thanks Thomas

Ok the problem is back again for some reason, so instead of trying to sort this can someone tell my how I can change the default tools on os3.9. I want to tell the amiga to use unpacker for all lha, zips etc instead of unarc but can find the file/program needed to change the default tools. Thanks in advance

Hi
I don't think there is a tool to change the default tools.
Have a look at "SYS:Prefs/ENV-Archive/SYS/" there you could find all of your default icons.
By left-clicking once on these icons and than selecting the menu-item "Icons/Informations" of the Workbench menu you could change the default tool of every of these icons.
The icons used for the compressed files are named "def_lha.info", "def_lzx.info", "def_gzip.info" etc.
It's a lot of work, cause you have to change all icons that have "SYS:Tools/Unarc" as default tool.
Don't forget to make a reboot after finishing so the changes are copied to "RAM:ENV" (or you might do the same on every icon found there too ;-))
