People like this is why the Amiga community is sometimes looked down upon and not taken seriously... Hopefully some one will put an end to these shipping scams
:pissed: :griping: :getmad: :furious:

$299 for shipping. Thats just plain ridiculous and there's no guarantee the signature is real. Sounds more like a complete scam.

That's Merlancia Industries. They first listed it for $399 opening bid (http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=2793437556&category=4598) on eBay. When that didn't sell they listed it with a $299 opening bid. (http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=2795903028&category=4598). I guess since it didn't sell that time either is the reason they are attempting this, hoping someone will bid without noticing the shipping costs.
Off the top of my head I'd bet that qualifies as fraud by eBay's definitions, though you'd have to read their TOS to be sure.

The seller is responsible for determining the shipping and handling charges on listings, and eBay encourages sellers to clearly describe the item and terms of shipping and delivery in their listings to avoid possible confusion. Before bidding on an auction or buying in a fixed-price listing, bidders/buyers should contact the seller about any questions they might still have that are not directly answered in the item's description.
Sellers may charge reasonable shipping and handling fee to the final price of their item, providing that this fee is disclosed up front in the listing. A shipping and handling fee can cover the seller's reasonable costs for mailing, packaging and handling the item. Shipping and handling fees cannot be listed as a percentage of the final sale price.
When a bid is placed, the bidder is entering into an agreement with the seller to purchase the item, which most often means incurring shipping charges that may also include handling fees.
In the case of disagreements between buyers and sellers regarding shipping charges, eBay encourages the parties to try to work the matter out. Usually these situations can be amicably resolved.

Ebay view this as a seller trying to rip Ebay from getting sales commission and usually act swiftly and justly..
-
You say that like you don't trust the seller!
 :roflmao:

I don't like the fact of overinflated S&H to cover cost of item :pissed:

Let me clearify this I've been selling on ebay for some time. Every once in a while you get beat on an auction where something sells for far less then expected.. But I still keep my shipping prices honest.. If you can't sell it for what you want then give up don't Jack up the shipping cost to rip off the consumer.. I understand the World is not perfect but crap like $299.99 shipping is too far over the line..
Thank you all for letting me vent...

I thought everyone was aware of Merlancia by now.

Can we get a clarification from Haynie on the signature? From the picture it looks photoshopped because the signature doesn't seem to change direction on that angle on the right side. Could be an illusion, though. If Haynie says it's fake, then Merlancia's ebay account could probably be revoked, eh?

The signature itself is probably real. Dave Haynie really did work for Merlancia at one time. Dave also somewhat watches community boards and these auctions have been going for weeks now. He's probably seen it and would likely have spoken up if it was faked.
Just my guess of course. I think what's really at issue here is the shipping costs. :-)

Merlancia is such a joke. When I am at home in Phoenix I've gone to his shop a few times. He charges unreal prices for walk in customers as well. He doent know half of what he has, and he will sell you broken items and tell you they worked before he sold it to you if you do get something and take it back. I would never buy anything from him EVER.

Look again Ebay has stepped in and fixed the problemm. No more 299.00 shipping
-
It's nice to see that complaints don't fall on deaf ears.

Hi,
IMHO those 299$ shipping, was a typo and . . anyway, would you really like, to spend such price, for a signed monitor?
I'm 100% sure that Dave Haynie himself, disagree those kind of business/speculation . . .or i hope so.

@Framiga
Rest assured that this was NO typo, just Ryan trying to con people from a different angle ....
-
Hi Kronos,
but it should been ridiculus as well!
Who, on the earth would buy, an item with such S&H cost?
IIRC, no one has bidded for it . . a nonsense auction itself.
