and Soldf.com (http://www.soldf.com/) for general info.
It's realy cool and more will come upp on our cool webbpage.

(I can replay anythink for about two weeks, sorry)

I'm not in the Military!

Hi GPT,
Well there are some of us that RESPECT those who choose to defend. I am one. in the US, depending on if you are Navy, Army, Air Force, Marine, or Coast Guard. there are web sites for all.
Aviation Now is a well updated site, as well as some shipmakers sites, "Northrop-Grummen". Stay out of harms way, ie: watchyerbut, or is it CYA.

@Gpt
What are you doing in the army/airforce/navel ? infantry or training to be a technician ?

What about people who join to "shoot up some towelheads"?

I'm in the production IT! :-) (a 'tad' more productive, the ultimate productive part of our society is the artists part)

Not food-growers?

Artists (any kind of artists) give reason for them, for everyone actually, to live.

If only professional standing armies were used to defend, I'd agree with you.
-
@ TPG,
"What about people who join to "shoot up some towelheads"?"
Never met one of those, and I lived and worked in a city that had a base in it. BTW, were you born prejudice or did you have to work at it?

@QuikSanz
(just to balance it up)
""What about people who join to "shoot up some Westerners"?"
I`ve never seen the appeal of killing, or even being killed...(Er, apart from alien scum)

Perhaps the pricks I've met on the internet are too cowardly to actually voice their reasons for signing up in person. Certainly where I come from, a lot of racists seem interested in joining the forces and go in with this attitude.
I was challenging the idea that everyone who's in the military is all about noble defense, and your comment "some of us RESPECT those who choose to defend..."
BTW, were you born prejudice or did you have to work at it?
I have a perfectly natural dislike of the military, it respresents conflict and is not purely a defense measure, if it was I'd consider it a necessary evil.
No effort required.

Killing leaves a bad taste in your mouth and it's one that will never go away. :-( Regardless of whether it was 'confirmed' or not, you will remember and it will never leave you. I speak from experience here. :-( :-(
Of course, killing alien scum that kidnaps our women, for their own sadistic pleasures, that's different. :lol:
'Those alien {bleep}s are gonna pay for shooting up my ride!'
God, I hope we get Bush out of office this year...
'Strong leadership in times of change...' That has got to be the BIGGEST Political BS I have ever seen.
Armies were created to defend countries during war, not to start them. Shame that the President technically has executive order over the Army for 6 months before congress HAS to get involved.
@GMT,
Congrads for having the strength to defend the values you believe in.
:-D

Hi,
@TPG,
I don't think useing the term "towel head has anything to do with dislike for the military".
@Blobrana,
Never met one of those either. The people I've talked to don't even expect to go to war. They join to learn a trade and get funds for College. I don't know where you people get your "sky is falling attitude".
There are actually some good people out there. You must live in an awfull place.

Hi,
@TPG,
Maybe cos I put quotes in wrong place, sorry. Now "Towel Heads", your words not mine. My former boss is from the mideast. He's a very knoledgeable and fair minded man. And nothing like what you would think. Me, I also am or were a minority here because I have a spanish sir name. I DON"T like being pidgeon holed into some catagory like liberals like to do. I don't think anybody from the mideast does either. Please keep your derogetory' (that spelling looks wrong), remarks out of public view. No need for it.
I can undersdand a passion for something but racisum is uncalled for.

He wasn't thinking that, he suggests that many soldiers think that way.
-
@Speelgo...,
Man thats a long handle. please see earlier posts for backgound. Some of those Marines were neighbors, friends and customers of our shop. Overall a respectable lot. It takes a very large leap in logic to come up with this kind of view on things. I, for one, don't get it.

Having fun always,

The problem with Sweden is that we have a conscription army. Nonetheless, defending one's country is both a duty and a privilidge.
They never let me into the army... :-(

But as whabang said, we have a conscription army( even if only around 1/4 gets drafted).
And whats more according to swedish law a a swedish military officer can´t command swedish soldiers outside sweden. The troops on international missions has special contracts to allow that.
So our military is a pure defense force. We are never going to invade anybody with because, our military doesn´t have to obey those orders.:-D
The finns have nothing to worry about from this side of their country anymore. :-)
Most other countries needs a law like this. Are you listening Fade???? :-)

@ Dan
"So our military is a pure defense force. We are never going to invade anybody with because, our military doesn´t have to obey those orders."

Yes Sweden has done some strange things during war. Being a neutral country they kind of stayed out of WWII.
Not being officially involved, it seems Swedes volunteered to be in both the German and Finnish armies, although officially they did manage to take quiet a few allied prisoners and hold them till the end of the war.
If I remember my history correctly, they were also a repository for a lot of stolen war booty and was rife with spies and espionage.
-
Yep, and also a safe haven for Jewish refugees and Norwegian freedom fighters. I remember some spinechilling stories about guys trying to escape to Sweden from Trøndelag.
-

Yeah.
We've come to the conclusion that war is generally a bad thing. The last time we were in a major war, we lost 60 per cent of the country. :-(
Sweden wasn't really neutral in WW2. The germans realised that it would be easier to use stolen gold to buy iron from us, rather than invading the country and risking that we destroyed the mines.
-
>Swedish military
Hi
The tradition of Sweden Army during peace keeping missions: hot water tub and sauna! If you go to the officer's hall, you will find hot water tub and sauna.
The Swedish military is famous for "bouncing tanks" prototypes. After complete stop, the tank continue to move up and down, make it impossible to fire any shells from the gun.
>James Bond
Ian Fleming (the author) is famous as British Intelligence agent with various missions in Sweden during WW II.

That is the freedom of the individual, there was a few nutcases that moved to Germany and joined SS. But the volunteer effort to help Finland was unofficially approved by the governement.
Anyway if YOU wanted to join the French Foreign Legion how could the american authorities stop you?
although officially they did manage to take quiet a few allied prisoners and hold them till the end of the war.
As you just said we were neutral, that meant that any foregin aircraft was forced down, and the crew taken as prisoners. The germans usually volunteered to be prisoners.
Better to be a prisoner in Sweden than a corpse in germany.
If I remember my history correctly, they were also a repository for a lot of stolen war booty
I have never heard of that, but as Whabang said, we got paid in with stolen goods. Anyway, that is what capitalism is all about isn´t it, money don´t smell and all that.
and was rife with spies and espionage.
Oh, there was this house in Malmö that was used to monitor radiotraffic. The funny thing was that during the first part of the war the germans used it and during the second half it was the allies. :lol:
But the real point is that Sweden can´t invaded anyone!
That would require a rewrite of the law, and that would take at least 5 years(2 decisions in parliament with, an election in between)
Do you really think it´s reasonable that one single person should have the power to involve your country in a war?
That there is a reason to go to war if nobody is trying to invade you?
-
None of this matters anyway. Sweden couldn't invade anyone with an army larger than Estonia... :-D
-

And in any case, Britain would help them (as they did in 1918) along with the Finns and the other Baltic States :-)

Why can't people just leave us in peace? We have an empire to build, and we ain't got all day! :-x

I found a small weakness in our plan to conquer the world.
How are we going to supply our army with key supplies like snus, hembränt, surströmming(is also an important weapon, a cheaper and environmental friendly alternative to mustardgas :lol:),mammas köttbullar and Kalles Kaviar?;-)
