Title: Amiga and Atari mouse compatibility
Post by: Gavilan on March 27, 2004, 11:21:23 PM
Is it possible to use an Atari mouse on the Amiga and viceversa??

Not unless you write a special driver. Amigas and Ataris use different standards. Back in the day, 3rd party mice often had a switch on the bottom to select Amiga or Atari mode.

It should be possible.

I reverse engineered a Wizard mouse and the Amiga/Atari switch swaps over pins 1 (V-Pulse) and pin 4 (HQ-pulse).

So if you swap pins 1&4 it should work.

I can post the schematic of the Wizard mouse if that helps.

Hey, I still got one of those :-D I think the main difference between the modes was that atari mode didn't seem to use the quadrature pulse signals - I expect the hardware for that was internal. Buttons still work, but moving the mouse just creates single pixel wobbles :-)

-edit-

Well I was clearly wrong about that, but the signals get swapped over :-)

Stedy is correct.  Just swap pins 1 and 4 to use an Amiga mouse on an Amiga, and the oposite.
