Title: A600gs Amibench change Screenmode
Post by: alexh on February 15, 2026, 03:41:46 PM
I tried using Amibench on my A600gs this afternoon.

I almost fell at the first hurdle. I wanted to change the screen mode from the default 1920x768 to 1280x1024 This is to match my monitor native resolution.

But when I tried it, it just opened a dialogue window that said"Intuition is attempting to reset the screen. Please close all windows except wanderers ones."

I eventually worked out that you need to close the calendar, clock, dock and the logo in the bottom RHS to make it change resolution.

Did anyone else struggle with this? Or am I really very rusty about how Workbench/Amibench works?

I appreciate I could/should have just saved the new resolution, ignored the warning message and reboot Amibench?

The behaviour is indeed Workbench standard; usually these small Commodities are supposed to respond to the notification of screen change automaticly. some just don't.

This is "normal" for 3.1 API based workbenches.

On later OS variants, like AmigaOS4 and probably MorphOS too, intuition message the apps to close (if they are based on window class and similar ) and so the problem only occurs for rarer programs that might have a stray lock on the Workbench screen.

Given time AmiBench will do the same, but just at the moment I haven't had tie to deal with this.

1280x1024 should work OK once saved though, it did on my test a while back.

Yes it did work. Both in Amibench and on the A600gs main menu (albeit the main menu is slightly off-screen rather than scaled to fit)
