Hello. Can I record ADF data to the FDD on the A600GS so that the original Amiga can read it?
-
Yes, use a Greaseweazle 8)
-
Could you by any chance tell me how it works? Honestly, I got the A600GS by chance and it piqued my interest. Before that, I only had an A500 mini. I'm considering buying an original and am looking for one in good condition for my collection, and I don't plan on tinkering with its internals.
I also play Amiga games on the Evercade VS-R

You buy a Greaseweazle like this -> https://sordan.ie/product/1530/greaseweazle-v41-usb-floppy-adapter-flux-reader-writer--case/
Put an old PC floppy on it and connect it via USB with your A600GS. Then you set any of the four floppies (DF0 to DF3) as REAL DISK drive in the A600GS menu and maybe even one as virtual floppy drive.
Then you have two options :
1) boot up any AmigaOS (self installed or Amibench) and use any transfer utility like TRANSADF, TSGUI or AMIBLITZER to write any ADF to the REAL DRIVE or
2) use for example X-Copy, insert ADF in virtual Drive, real disk in real drive and do a copy 1:1
Both works fine ...

Or you get one from here, ;).
Grease Weasle 4.1(with options for case and cables). (https://www.amigakit.com/greaseweazle-p-91322.html?aksid=1lp3a87fsemdscg7i66gbvr2uf¤cy=GBP&aksid=1lp3a87fsemdscg7i66gbvr2uf)
Yes you can write stuff back to disk, so real amiga can read it.
However, not sure about Copy protected disks. Doubt something like X-Copy would work for those.
DOS based disks, like workbench, etc etc. will work fine.

Every Standard ADF (880KB) works fine, even NDos Disks since they don't have any copy protection info on them ;)
If you want to do that, just connect the Greaseweazle to a PC and you can write back anything that has been preserved, including copy protected disks ... but that is not possible on the A600GS itself !

Thanks, I'll check it out, maybe I'll even order one from eBay with a floppy disk. But for now, I'm thinking of trying the old computer option.
It's a shame something like the A600GS can't do this out of the box. It would be nice to at least have a ribbon cable connector.

I think it´s great that it DOES support the Greaseweazle 8)
If you want more, you have to pay more and buy the A1200NG, that has a Greaseweazle built in and you can connect the floppy drive with a ribbon cable and that´s it ;D

Indeed, be a nightmare to integrate GW to GS. Then you would have to mess around with placing floppy connector and power. It would just look ugly.

It would be perfectly fine to make a 3D-printed stand to package all this nicely. It would make a relatively compact box.
I'm also already thinking about the A1200NG. I'll build it in an A1200Net case.
But we'll see what Retro Games comes up with.
