Title: Can‘t format disks in workbench
Post by: Ingstein on December 23, 2025, 01:52:00 PM
Hi together,

I’ve got a real A1200 disk drive mounted in my A1200NG.
Seems to work since I can boot inserted disks after loading a kick.
Same with Workbench 3.2: game disks mount correctly.

Problem: when I try to format a blank DD disk (new memorex pack) in workbench, it always says cylinder 0 can’t be formatted and stops. Tried several disks. Help
😁

Can you boot a ATK disk and test the Drive?

The Memorex Disks known good? Tested on another drive etc.. are they HD ones? If so try covering the HD hole in the disk just incase.

Have bought new old stock disks and have had similar issues.

They’re good old DD. Tried to format old used disks.
Same there. It’s either the disk drive (while it boots disks without problem) or the emulated surrounding.

Fumbled an old external drive with defunc controller into my real A1200 with Gotek, did format the disks in real WB 3.14. The A1200NG did recognize the preformated disks and ADFBlitzer did write disks without problems. Kind of a hassle, works though. Wish I could do all on one Amiga 😂

Cant format cylinder 0, normally means dirty heads. Seen it loads of times, reads fine, just will not format.
