Title: SD-reader options for A500+
Post by: IlyaZ on November 23, 2025, 03:32:02 PM
Hello,

I have lots of floppies and want to free up some physical space, so I am considering my options. Most of my floppy drives are not working anymore anyway. I got one that still works - I think. I also got a CD-reader that seems to work, I guess I could load firmware if need be.

So far I know about

SDBox V2
Gotek floppy emulator (or the like)
ACA500plus
SCSI2SD

Essentially I want to copy over the floppies to HDD (SD-card) or similar and run games from there. Some games are multi floppy. Will they require a physical eg. floppy 2 or can they be run from HDD entirely anyway?

I have a a500+ with A500-HD+ so that would make it possible to use SCSI2SD. However, it would be difficult to combine ACA500plus with the A500-HD+?

I'm not super interested in removing the internal floppy (except perhaps from the unit where it doesn't work - I was told an IC reseat should do the trick though), and heard that some games likely won't start from a secondary drive?

Performance is of interest.

What would be my best option?

Simple. WHDload. It’s a system that will play games and demo scenes.

Read about it here:
