Title: A1200 CF card died - Best replacment
Post by: sheepz on August 05, 2025, 09:36:01 AM
Hi

My A1200 with TF1260 CF card has died. Its had me wondering, is there any better alternative to replace it with?

I have OS 3.2, and just want they most reliable alternative if there is, or just get another CF card (Is it worth using the TF1260s IDE instead for the Work bench, As I have a 4 way IDE which I use for my CD rom and Zip drive).

Regards

Barry

Hi

Not sure really, the drive has 3 partitions, the First having the OS, and its just saying "not initialised" . I can still access the 2 other but I am guessing some kind of file system corruption. A bit annoying but just glad I had most of it backed up. Just one day it would not boot.

Okay. So I believe the TF card has a faster IDE uptake. So if you want fast boot and access times, then stick with that.
The 4 way I’m guessing is just a Buffered adapter that fits on the Main board? If so then you will be getting the mediocre speed of around 1 to 1.6MB/s.

For IDE drives, there is always SD cards. Or a SSD with a SATA to IDE adapter.

The choice is yours. It just depends if you want the media to be easily removable.

Are you using physical 3.2 kickstart? Are you using FFS?
