Mouse movement was so slow and choppy that I haven't really bothered to use my A600GS since I received it, but after the latest update it's completely unusable: https://www.youtube.com/shorts/hCakNvFtIcY
It's only like this after you enter Amibench, in the initial UI it's just fine.
-
Hello
That looks really laggy. It’s not at all like that here. Have you tried a different mouse (is it Wired or optical or Bluetooth ?)
How are you powering the A600GS ? Are you using a 3Amp USB supply ?
Can you tell me how much fast memory you have in AmiBench.
Thanks
-
I have used different power supplies, 65w/5A, 100w/5A and so on. The mouse is a rog gladius iii 2.4ghz rf mouse.
But like I said, the update made it 10x worse, and it works ok in the A600GS UI, so it seems to be something emulation related. https://www.youtube.com/shorts/PAyL4aVo_oQ
I just tried to play Colonization and Arkanoid too that I have installed outside Amibench, and it was impossible to control. Both these titles were playable before the update.

Would it be possible to use a wire mouse and let me know if that makes any difference
Thanks
-
No difference with wired mouse and keyboard.
-
Switching resolution from 2560 to 1920@60 improved things back to how it was before the update, so not good, but not completely unusable.

Turning off mouse acceleration in AmiBench makes mouse pointer movement much better
-
After the last update it's back to being 100% horrible again. I have done nothing with the system except update and reboot.

Are you running display in 4K again instead of 1080p
-
No of course not, I only have a 1440p display anyway, but I have been running it in 1080. I have also tried all the different 1080 refresh rates except 50. So basically, 1080 is now as bad as 1440 was on the previous version. The A600GS menu system before launching Amibench is just fine, so there has to be some kind of issue with emulation, possibly relating to screen resolution or refresh rate.
-
Nothing has changed in the latest update except for ARM libraries for native MP3 Playback
So I cannot understand why the update would affect the responsiveness of the display.
-
I also noticed this. The mouse is especially bad on PAL/non-accelerated setups. Moving the physical mouse quickly will not move the mouse pointer at all, and in addition it blocks all other keyboard input.
I tested this with the imported WHDload version of "Pool of Darkness". The mouse works fine on the A600GS system (e.g. after pressing F12 for the menu).
You should be able to reproduce it with the game "Movem", too. Wait until the CLI window appears, move the mouse quickly until the mouse pointer freezes and then press space. The cursor will not move. After stopping the mouse the shell starts to react to key presses again.
-
At least I'm not alone!

Hi,
I added the game Movem (ADF) and ran it with an Kickstart 1.3 Amiga 500 configuration straight from the menu. I did what you wrote above, but everything worked well here.
Also tried Pool of Darkness (WHDLoad version) and had no issues with the mouse.
Using firmware 46.2.1098 on A1200NG (uses same main hardware as A600GS).
-
Thanks for testing.
I did another test with Cecconoid (ADF + Kick 13 ROM), and the game/animations stop if I move the mouse. There is definitely an issue. Maybe just on the A600GS?

Cecconoid runs fine here on my A600GS, doesn´t matter if I move the mouse or not :)

I’ve just turned my A600gs and noticed how bad and laggy the mouse is.
It’s been off for a few month and I thought it’s time to try it out again.
There also seems to be a dot in the center on amibench which moves the when the mouse moves.
Its set to 1920x1080 at 60fps - it’s terrible experiance the moment, no vsync and like 10fps updates to screen.
I’m sure it wasn’t like this before.
-
Mmh, the slow downs only happen on my A600GS in Full-HD (1920x1080x50 or 1920x1080x60). Moving the mouse in 1280x720 caused no slowdowns/freezes.
Do you believe me that I have slowdowns in Full-HD, or do you need a video as proof?
Just to make sure: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YSviXl3pCAE (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YSviXl3pCAE)
This happens with the USB mouse is connected directly or via a KVM switch.
-
Same here, in 720 I can move the mouse without it freezing/stuttering games
-
I’ve tried a few things today.
Turning down the resolution to 640 x 480 in AmiBench does speed the FPS up but it’s not perfect.
Also going down to that resolution breaks AmiBenchs splash screen.
I did some more testing with 8 bit colour but AmiBench breaks
It’s display glitches with windows drawn on the grey screen / and icons vanish in this mode.
The white dot in the middle of the screen never goes away.
I assume the emulator running is having some video problems.

@boingball
The white dot is a consequence of a workaround in a recent update, hopefully it's fairly temporary.
https://forum.amiga.org/index.php?topic=76184.msg863348#msg863348
I'm not seeing the slow mouse pointer movement in HD myself, though I seem to have my own special issues with certain whdload archives.

The mouse problem in video :
https://youtube.com/shorts/yu1MpzrVUEE?feature=share
I have not used my A600Gs for abought 4 months - so before this it was working fine.
Turned it on, updated it and then the mouse has the issues :(
i was thinking it was something wrong I had done - but finding this post has put my mind at rest at least :)
-
@boingball
OK, I guess I do have the same issue that you're seeing in relation to the screen tearing and ghosting. :o
I've owned my A600GS for less time than you've had yours switched off! So I don't have the same historical reference to compare.
-
I received my unit in April, so that's probably why it's been bad all the time.
-
@thread
Are any of the users experiencing mouse slow downs using particularly high performance mice?
-
This one: https://rog.asus.com/mice-mouse-pads/mice/ergonomic-right-handed/rog-gladius-iii-wireless-model/
Also tried a cabled mouse, I think it was Razer gaming mouse of some kind, I dont have any typically low performance mice to test.
-
Yes, indeed. I am getting slowdowns using a Logitech G502 Hero Gaming mouse.
Everything Most is fine with an old Cherry MC 2000 mouse (no gaming, just 2 buttons and a wheel).
Still, even if I use the normal mouse in AmiBench, the mouse pointer stops after moving the mouse quickly. If I move the mouse slowly, the mouse pointer smoothly goes from left to right edge (or the other way round). If I move the mouse quickly, the mouse pointer moves a bit (~1/3rd of the screen) and then simply stops although I move the mouse further in the same direction. Something is still off.
-
What happens to the little white dot when you move the mouse quickly enough to trigger the issue? Does it hit the edge of the screen?
-
Sorry, I really cannot say. The dot is so tiny and jumps so quickly that I cannot see it after starting to move the mouse.
-
It just kind of stays in the middle of the screen and blinks for me.
