Tested two WHDLoad games so far, I either get an error from JST (see attachment) or just a black screen ...
Pool of Darkness -> Error msg
Eye of the Beholder -> Black Screen
Oh and did I mention that we need a Savegame-Import/Export-Feature ;D
-
Which version of WHDload is this?
-
Built in JST Loader ...
-
Is this a new error? That is, have save games worked in the past, or is the first time you've tried.

I wanted to play some RPG games lately and yes, first try on A600GS ;)

Still cannot save a WHDLoad game with the new update ... is this issue getting addressed in the (hopefully) near future ?

It seems in the case of the error, it may be a current JST limitation. From the project readme https://github.com/jotd666/jst?cmdf=jst+slave
- the resload_ExNext function is not supported (yet): directory read won't work in games

I have two WHDLoad games I had installed on the A600GS stop working.
These two games are Moon Patrol HD AGA and Phoenix HD AGA.
Both games use AmiBerry to start up.
Both games I have run in the past without issue, but on the latest firmware, after around 10 seconds or so the system resets and a guru error comes up on the screen. When examining it with the row of status lights at the bottom of the screen enabled, the HD light turns off after a few seconds and the light to the left of it flashes for a few seconds before it resets with the guru screen.
What's more, any WHDLoad game I try to install now that uses AmiBewrry all show the exact same symptoms described above.
Any WHDLoad game that doesn't use AmiBerry works fine.

Do you mean AmiBench ? Because AmiBerry is the emulator, every game is using that ;)
Also, what does this have to do with the save behaviour of JST ???
-
(Sorry, thought it was in some way related since you were talking about WHDLoad games not working. Should I have made a new thread instead?)
@SkulleateR : This is happening in the A600 environment. I am not using AmiBench for this.
It appears to only happen with new qames that are not in JST's list of supported games, where the AmiBerry logo appears before the game loads.
As stated before, the AmiBerry logo appears, then when attempting to load the game, after about 10 seconds or so it resets and the Guru Mediation style error box appears. I click the mouse button and it tries again with the same result.
Any new games I add where the AmiBerry logo appears, after the process it goes through of finding the WHDLoad slave file and then selecting which version of the game to run and any other options that may come up, once it attempts to load it shows the above symptoms before resetting with the guru error. And any previously added games where the AmiBerry logo appears, which were working before, now no longer work either.
Any games I add that are already in JST's list of supported games, where the AmiBerry logo does NOT appear, work without issue, so if AmiBerry is actually is used in every game, then it only appears to affect new games that are not in JST's list of supported games.
EDIT: I am on the latest firmware which ends in 1069 (can't remember the full version number off the top of my head).

Just tested Moon Patrol AGA HD from here -> https://jotd666.itch.io/moonpatrol500
Added mpatrol_HD.lha to A600GS, started it, AmiBerry Logo comes up and since there are two slaves inside the archive it asks which one I would like to start. Selected Moon Patrol AGA and it loads and plays fine, no issue here ...

I've just tried the same with my A600GS. I get a "Software Failure 8000 0003" after choosing the Moon Patrol AGA slave option. Firmware version 46.2.1069.

@balrog74
Update 1069 for me too, that´s weird :o
AFAIR the WHDLoad import uses A1200 Config, did you import the correct Kickstart Rom (40.068 from A1200) for it ?
-
@SkulleateR
Yes, weird is right!
The ROM was imported but not using the official Amiberry naming convention. I've just re-imported with the correct name but still not working for me.
-
@balrog74
And you're sure it´s the correct ROM ? Because naming doesn´t matter, I can name it "kick31", "kicka1200" or whatever, it's still recognised and used ... and I just tested deleting it and as soon as I did that the game won´t work anymore !
-
@SkulleateR
The file was amiga-os-310-a1200.rom (decrypted) from the Amiga Forever CD.

Yes, this is exactly what I am getting now.
What makes is even stranger is that in past firmwares it was working perfectly, but now using 46.2.1069 it won't work.
I have the correct kickstart files, and have not changed them since I originally installed them when I first got my A600 last year.
And this is exactly what is happening with any WHDLoad game I try to add that isn't natively supprted by JST.

This would appear to be the case for me too. I've only had mine for a few weeks and updated straight to the .1049 (I think) firmware.
-
Then I´m out of ideas, maybe @broadblues can have a look at it :-\

@Rusty Breadbin
I've had some (limited) success adding the Amiberry keyword _AGA_ into the filename of the whdload files before reloading on the A600GS. I was able to get Moon Patrol going this way and it also solved a freeze I had during loading for Ruff 'n Tumble (though this was a known whdload file). Unfortunately, this doesn't work for everything.
