Title: EAB Down
Post by: F0LLETT on February 11, 2025, 09:03:04 AM

Been like it for 2 days now.

I wouldn’t know 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

Just tried getting on as a “Guest” no login for obvious reasons on Safari. No issues. Been in the Hardware Support forum. No issues.
Possible database issue for members? Or RPUK has been let loose 😉😆

There's a couple of threads on EAB about it saying basically AI bots are logging on exponentially as registered users do, as some sort of data harvest for AI learning. I checked once and 26 members were logged on and 7360 guest users .... then 14000 or more guest users came on. Don't know what they will do about that.

Easy, do what we did here and block the ip's of certain known bots.
I remember the Admin posting a while back, saying hs is not interested in EAB any more. Shame as things take very long to get done.
Fedup of seeing that snowman. Pointless posting about it as nothing will get done til June. Silly really, as on my own sites, I added code to make it auto change for Christmas.

And its down again, :(.

The irony, when Amigakit  killed this site by taking the site down for months and months and months

This site is shadow of  its former self :( and I've been here for 26 years

An alternative theory I've come across is, what was going on with Commodore and maybe even Atari in the 80's-90's went with Sony in Japan later - and NONE of the recent interests such as Hyperion, A-Eon(?), Amigakit, Retropassion UK, TF cards, OS 3.2x and even Retro Fusion in OZ have anything to do with the furtherance of the Amiga, only themselves. Which is a lie.  ::)

Not the intention. If I had not stepped in and basically hijacked server. It would have been down even longer (may never have come back).
I did what I could, it wasnt easy fixing the mess of a database, left by previous owners. Thankfully, I was able to sort it and preserve everything.
I also have another working backup (test with basic database) of Amiga.org on my own server. So should worst happen, we have that, as I do regular database backups. Something good to come out of it all.

Well a big thanks from me….But as we all know, working in I.T is a thankless task. 🙄

EAB down again.

Yes, 17 000 bots on EAB, they turned the guests off.

hey guys it was not a bots problem , things are more serious  :-X

here are the last words  RCK said on the EAB irc channel:

"Hello guys, the forum is 24 years old now and has lasted long enough. I'm bankrupt and can no longer afford this domain because the donations aren't enough.
My wife is divorcing me and she  will be taking my house and most of my belongings, which are also just debts. In a a few days I'll be homeless and, of course, I'll have other priorities than Amiga's business. I hope you understand. I wish you all the best, RCK."

Do you have a link to the above? I went on as a guest and all looked fine to me 🤔 Unfortunately I can’t logon due to obvious reasons 🙄

No, because it's a load of nonsense.

Indeed, it's been thoroughly debunked on EAB: https://eab.abime.net/showpost.php?p=1749460&postcount=219, RCK has no clue what this looney is talking about.

Good, would have hated it if that were true. As EAB is one of the oldest Amiga Forums out there.

again is not a bots problem,  the website is down for non-payment
as I said above RCK is suffering a divorce he'll be evicted from the house next week.
some EAB members offered to house him, but he declined and plans to travel to India and convert to Buddhism

It's not down!?!

@LaserBack Please can you link to these announcements? (Which RCK himself seems to be debunking)

Either this account has been hacked. Or the OP is on some sort of non prescription drugs. I have my qualms with EAB for obvious reasons. But this is really a mark of fiction. As this the Critical Drinker would finish with “That’s all I got today, go away Now!” 🤣🤣🤣

These are all things that were discussed on the IRC channel. RCK also said he's frustrated with the feminist laws of France which harmed him, with the immigrants in who can no longer go out safe at night, etc
also the website was attacked by russian hackers, all of that  exhausted his patience.
but it seems the main reason is that there's no money to pay the debts of the website and yet no EAB member offered a viable solution

LMAO, thanks for the confirmation that this is complete and utter rubbish.
Me thinks LaserBack is heading for a timeout.

well guys if you don't believ what I posted you can join the IRC channel and ask members what happened
but fact is  that yesterday RCK took a flight to Bombay with tears in his eyes and he didn't say whether he would return or not
The problem is that most of EAB's donors are just Amiga fans which are constantly purchasing unnecessary Amiga hardware, then most of them are divorced/bankrupt so the site was accumulating debt and so on here's the result.

btw,

I forgot to say that they don't want this whole mess to become public, so they don't tell anyone what's really going on.
therefore, I understand that some of you don't believe

+I'm telling you this because some of them have told me.
but the reality is that the site is full of debts and even the moderators haven't received their modest salaries for months.
what's really happening is that they want to appear serious, but they're left without RCK, and now they don't know how to get out of this whole mess.

Neither site has vanished. They are implementing measures to block bots and there are comments about the impact on some users to both sites.

(Laser back gets a mention in page 11 of the same thread)

Ah, his ban is over and he does this.
Enjoy being banned for good. You were warned.

He is a troll that posts stupid things. He has already had a ban for saying things RCK, which are are not true.

The site is clearly working, but I've been unable to post there as a new user because, though I've registered and verified my email through the link they sent, no one has approved my membership for several days now, which is the last step.

I keep checking but no-go. I can log-in to the site. But I can't post an introduction.

I looked for some moderator or administrator contact method on the site but so far couldn't find one.

Sorry if this is possibly off topic, but I did wonder if there was something (like bot floods?) now preventing registration approvals there.

The site has been under attack from bots. So they may have disabled auto approve.
I know, its a nightmare, when auto approve is disabled. As it means I had to wade through the new accounts to verify they are real or not.

Terrible what's going on these days with scrapers and bots. I'm on another forum that has instituted a honeypot for bots. It automatically bans IPs that hit the honeypots (they're hidden from regular users). Recently there were 25,000 hits in one day.

Also...just a follow up... I was approved on EAB today, so now I can post. Thanks for the explanation.
