Title: Which card, PIV or C64/3D?
Post by: DegeRandolf on March 24, 2004, 03:21:34 PM
I have an A4000 with a Picasso IV in it currently, running under cgx 4.2.  I also have a C64/3D card.  I'm wondering which of the two cards would be better in terms of speed (want to run at 1024x768) and/or every day workbench use.  Also would Picasso96 be a better choice than cgx?

Better stick with the PIV and use P96 with it. In terms of speed there isn`t much difference and you would lose the automatic scandoubler/sonitorswitcher of the PIV unless you have the scandoublermodul for the CD64/3D.
AFAIK the only ZIII Card that can outperform the PIV in 2D speed is the CV64. The CV64/3D is actually slower.
Is you do want to use the CV64/3D take CGX.

Thanks for the feedback.  The PIV is a good card I agree.  Just didn't know if the 3D card would be better.  I've found myself using 800x600 though because it seems like greater resolutions are visibly slower.  Oh well, my AmigaOne will be here Friday :)

The Virge 3D support has been dropped and it hasn't much power to speed up anything... if you want 3D buy a Voodoo3... I would keep the Picasso4, because it's slightly faster (at least benchmarks suggested that, I had a CV3D before the Picasso4 and I prefer the pIV) and the FlickerFixer is really good.
