Title: WHDLoad on 512kb Chip, 4MB FastRam 512kb Slow Ram
Post by: lafey on December 09, 2024, 05:36:33 PM
Hey guys, so this question has probably been already asked many times before - but is it worth it to install a Kickstart switcher on my A2000A (Rev 4 - Germany 1986) to have KS 2.04 and install WHDLoad?

Will games that require:

"The installed program requires 0.5 MB ChipMem and 0.5 MB OtherMem."

Run at all?

I understand that Workbench requires some of the ChipMem, so I don't know whether I won't have low memory issues, even for the lowest requirements.

Anyone with a similar setup?

Whdload works differently than booting up a floppy disk. WHDload acts like an emulator of sorts and uses FastRAM as its working space. Also you need the Kickstart ROM files so that the slaves (The files the games run off) will work correctly.
Ideally I would be looking at KS 3.1 or above if you are planning to install a proper AmigaOS or workbench on a Hard Drive/SD or CF card solution.
