Title: AOS3.9 and WinUAE
Post by: Acill on January 04, 2003, 09:51:48 PM
I decided to try to set up 3.9 on my PC using WinUAE, and as you all know I have a real amiga so dont flame me. Its seems the system doesnt like my CD or something. I get to the license agreement part and it wont come up with the agree button except in one out of like 20 boots. If it does come up it just dumps back to workbench on me. What do yo uneed to do to install it?

I believe you are running into a protection check, or something.  I've encountered similiar in my setup.  (Actually, worse, as I can't directly use my CD drive in UAE - seems to be unsupported).  How is one to install OS 3.9 on UAE if one can't use the CD/ has CD check fail?

I had always thought the answer was buy Amiga Forever....  (Which I plan on anyhow, but seems there should also be another answer.)

Err,  you could copy the whole cd onto the PC HD...(in windoze mode)
Then , by hand copy (the correct versions) onto the amiga side...(in WinUAE mode).

I had to do this with my Amiga set- up, as there were some problems with correct library versions etc.

Also, i imagine that a DVD drive will see-through the copy protection?

 I installed the Amiga XL version, I had to copy it to the hard drive first, and after the install I had to comment out a line or two so that it would not look for CD0 on boot up, but that was it, it worked fine, aside of the usual limitations of running a tuely fluid OS on the not so fluid MS OS. :/

I found the newer versions of Winuae have problems with CD drive support.

Winuae version 817 r3 CD DRIVE seems to  work here. try it. :)

I use IDEFIX 97 with Winuae 0 8 22 R1 and only ever had 1 problem installing 3.9, i had to activate sound so it gets past the licence page otherwise it used to lock up and bomb out.

OS3.9 works fine for me under WinUAE 0.8.22 Release 4. Look in your WinUAE folder for a file called UAEHowTo.txt, it explains how to tweak the Emergency Disk so you can "boot" from it and then install OS3.9 from the CD. Also make sure you have WinUAE sound emulation enabled; otherwise the OS3.9 installer seems to crash when it trys to play that hand clapping sound.

<-----SNIPPED from UAEHowTo.txt ------->

Some tips to get happier with WINUAE

**How can i install Os3.5 and 3.9 from emergency Floppy disk*************

It is only allow to use OS3.5 or 3.9 on 1 Computer at same time
Read carefully the H&P license maybe H&P have a note in the license of newer OS3.9
that it can only use on AmigaHardware.

( A advokate recommend me to add this here)

Here we go:

Insert the emergency floppy in your old Amiga

Type
transdisk >ram:emergency_disk.adf

on shell

Copy it now on a PC formatet floppy and insert it to your PC.

Open the file on emergency-disk:devs/dosdrivers/emergency_CD with a texteditor:

Change the line device             ="xxxxxx
to
device ="uaescsi.device"
Change unitnum if need

IMPORTANT: Change the text
MaxTransfer    = xxxxxxx
to
MaxTransfer    =0xffff
or you get read/write errors

If you still get read/write errors from CD use a value of 0x1fff then

Save this to floppy

Now boot from your emergency_Disk.adf and make sure you have OS3.5/3.9 CD
insert

It wants to play applause. Enable sound and it will work.
