Title: Browsers crash AmigaOS 4.1
Post by: kaarlo52 on November 09, 2024, 11:35:54 AM
Ibrowse, OWB, Netsurf  crashes on AmigaOS 4.1 on WinUAE.
Small pages work like this AMIGA.org. But bigger websites like CNN crash and OS crashes.
Odyssey and Timberwolf won't even start before they crash.
So I have to reset it from WinUAE Properties.
Everything is triple checked.

4.1 or 4.1FE? Any OS updates applied?

WinUAE settings are what? RAM setup etc..

Version of WinUAE?

Version of Ibrowse being used? AMISSL version being used?

And perhaps most important - crash how? Freeze? Any error messages?

It should be obvious, but why use an Amiga web browser when you’re already using Windows and can use browsers there…

So only 128MB of RAM? Try adding 512MB of zorro3 ram… and change boot loader command to include NORAMPAGER

C:BootLoader COMMANDLINE="NORAMPAGER"

I put
C:BootLoader COMMANDLINE="NORAMPAGER"
in my S:startup-sequence
It still crashes.
And Accelerator board memory is 128MB max.

Have you checked the RAM-tab? Even though the accelerators says 128 MB max, you can add Z3 memory there. I have enclosed a screenshot.

Odyssey browser said: "Failed to allocate 131072 bytes"

What good is swap partition for?
Doesn't it use it?

Might not be coded to make use of it perhaps?

Either way, swap partitions on AmigaOS 4.1FE are not needed these days. Its function is to provide a buffer zone if you don’t have enough physical RAM. As you are using WinUAE, you should be able to allocate more than 1GB of FastRAM. So go with what has been suggested by others. Add Z3 fastRAM to the equation to see if that fixes the issue.

I increased F3 Fast RAM to 512MB. Odyssey starts but it stops and doesn't answer. Timberwolf loades a bit but won't start.
