Final Writer has been in put back into active development over recent years.
Version 7 will soon will make it's debut pre-installed on the A600GS (https://wiki.amiga.org/a600gs) computer.
AmigaKit Ltd and Timothy Deters are pleased to announce that a special edition of Final Writer 7 will be pre-installed on the A600GS alongside it's other updated applications of OctaMED 8, PPaint 7.4 and Directory Opus 4. Final Writer can be started from AmiBench (https://wiki.amiga.org/amibench), the desktop environment and will open on a 1080P screen.
Final Writer 7 Special Edition is fully functional with the exception of the Spell Checker module which will be offered to A600GS users as an optional paid upgrade.
Matthew Leaman, MD of AmigaKit Ltd commented on the collaboration: “We are very pleased to work with Timothy bundling the brand new edition of Final Writer on the A600GS low cost hardware platform. Final Writer is popular and much loved Amiga word processor. A significant amount of hard work has gone into bringing this application back to our community to the credit of Timothy and his developers. New versions of Final Writer complementing OctaMED and Personal Paint represents the renewal of Amiga applications.”
Timothy Deters, owner of Final Writer added: “I'm happy to have come to an agreement with AmigaKit to include Final Writer with their system. I’d like to thank the developers who worked on this project and have been instrumental to its completion."
The A600GS computer system is due for launch in the second quarter of 2024.

Wow! This is getting better and better! Truly a new Amiga not just a play games system. Fantastic job everyone!
This will mean that a Keyboard and Mouse will be part of a bundled system then?
-
Thanks. The mouse is an optional extra. We will offer a custom keyboard in coming months.
-
Thanks to all involved with this project.

Too bad the spell checker isn't included, as most modern word processors have it built-in. But I can understand it being a paid feature for Final Writer 7, especially if AmigaKit paid little or nothing for the privilege of bundling Final Writer 7 with the A600GS.
Two questions:
Does the A600GS include the necessary printer drivers and other necessary infrastructure in the OS to allow printing using modern printers, whether through wi-fi or USB connection? If not, then FW7 feels pointless.
How much will the spell checker module for FW7 cost? Hopefully it's a reasonable price.

As far as not including the spell checker goes you con consider it the difference between Word Pad and Word.
1. I haven't decided a final price yet however I have decided that A600GS owners will get at least a 20% discount on the full version.
2. Final Writer itself can print to modern printers.

Wouldn't it make more sense to classify Final Writer 7 as an Application, rather than as a Utility?
Perhaps a separate directory named Applications to hold Final Writer 7, as well as future additions such as spreadsheet programs, database programs, etc.?

Hello
Thanks for the feedback, we have created an Office drawer and relocated it into that.

So, when it seems to be out now, how is Final Writer 7 working? Everything runs stable? PDF output is good? Printing works? Any reviews anywhere?

Good questions, echoing what I asked above about whether or not FW7 can print to modern printers.
As enticing as it is to play games on the A600GS, the inclusion of software like FW7 makes it infinitely more useful and enjoyable.
For example, If I'm writing a notice or newsletter for a Commodore users group, I'd rather use FW7 instead of Microsoft Word. Provided FW7 is competent enough overall, even if not as slick and advanced as MS Word.

I know that the spell checker is not included.
But is it supposed to freeze the app if I try to select a spellchecker language?

No, there's a fix coming for most of the known bugs.

Just adding my thanks for the addition of Final Writer to the A600GS software. I have used this software since I purchased it 25 years ago to generate student handouts, publish books and generally produce anything I wanted to print. I use the "Convert to PDF" script on my "big" Amigas to generate printable files and it does a fine job.
All that said, I have noticed that the version of Final Writer on my GS has no scroll bar. I see the October notice that "known bugs" are being addressed. Add that one to the list.
I've also noticed that the font selector seems to access only the system font drawer, cutting off the Final Writer custom fonts I usually use. Access to those fonts would be a nice add as well.
Again, thanks to the team for all the work you're doing. I look forward to the bug fixes and increased function.
