Title: Question about new 4.2 Gig HD
Post by: MobbyG on October 24, 2002, 05:17:03 AM
Ok, for those that remember my problem, I now have a Seagate ST15150N 4.2G 7200 RPM SCSI2 HD for my A3000., but my A3K is acting funny with it connected.  When I go to boot up with it in the chain, my 50Meg HD with the OS files on it reports block read errors. Then Inutition gives me an error that it is having problems closing windows, then Workbench starts up.

I have already installed NSDPatch per the instructions in the Readme.  I have noticed that it takes abit longer for my A3K to boot, most likely due to the time the 7200RPM drive is getting up to speed.  But I don't know what could be causing this problem?

Can termination be a factor? Is it something to do with the dirve being SCSI2? Not sure.

Ideas? Suggestions? Help? :-?

Check what revision your WD SCSI chip is. Most A3000's came with revision 04 which is known to cause problems when more than one device is on the chain. The way to fix that is to purchase a revision 08 SCSI chip which corrects this problem.

The drive being SCSI 2 would have nothing to do with your problem as it is backwards compatible with SCSI 1.

I'll check that out, but I don't think that would be it. I have had 3 HDs on the chain as well as a SCSI CD-Rom and have had no problems.
