Hello
The great thing about Linux: open source. User can compile their own application software for their own system.
They can customize, optimize the software.
There are several OpenSource software for Windows, but all software use different compilers, different linkers, configurator, makefile etc.
Also the famous compilers are not free: Borland, Microsoft etc.
Is there any standard, free, widely used compiler, linker, configurator in AmigaOS?
Thank's.

GeekGadgets and GCC (http://www.geekgadgets.org/)

For AmigaOS, there are are a number of C compilers out there such as Storm C, SAS/C (Lattice C), VBCC, Dice, GCC.
If you are taking up C now, go for GCC with GoldEd or Storm C 4 (as that has a nice IDE front end).
GCC - http://ftp.uni-paderborn.de/aminet/dirs/dev_gcc.html
VBCC - http://ftp.uni-paderborn.de/aminet/dirs/dev_c.html
GoldEd - http://golded.dietmar-eilert.de/
StormC - http://www.haage-partner.com/e.htm
SAS C - http://www.warped.com/amiga/
For AmigaOS 4, GCC is the standard.

This is true. There is also an OS4 native VBCC, as well.

Hi xeron-
What is VBCC? (Any relation to Visual Basic?)

@CRL
VBCC is a free C compiler, written by Frank Wille. His homepage is here (http://devnull.owl.de/~frank/index_e.html).

vbcc; the program to convert C to assembly is written by Volker Barthelmann. The lower level programs like linker assembler is written by Frank Wille.
